Trash the Wedding Dress

Do you fancy letting your rebellious side out? More and more brides are choosing to do so as the Trash the Dress phenomenon sweeps the country.

The ‘Trash the Dress’ phenomenon has been increasing in popularity over the past few years. For those of you who aren't familiar with the concept, it involves a photoshoot, after the big day, giving the bride a chance to be captured in some more alternative locations whilst literally trashing her wedding dress.

The bride can choose how she wants to trash her dress, be that submerged in the sea, setting the gown on fire, or generally destroying it in any type of creative manner.

The concept is said to have officially begun in 2001 by Las Vegas photographer John Michael Cooper. Since then the trend has been adopted by wedding photographers around the world, with the quirky style proving popular amongst brides who like the idea of contrasting the innocence and beauty of a wedding gown with the rebellious nature of an extreme surrounding and act of destruction.

More recently the idea has developed into a massively popular concept, especially with the younger brides. This is a great way of creating a memorable set of after-wedding shots, and making the most of an otherwise obsolete item in your wardrobe. Many brides choose to get their gown dry-cleaned after the shoot, or even buy a seperate one from a popular auction website, like ebay, with the sole intention of ruining it!

By the looks of it, the ‘Trash the Dress’ trend is set to continue. Photographers are growing braver, experimenting more and more with outlandish locations. I’m sure wedding dresses worldwide will continue to be torn, torched and tainted in the name of shocking photos!
