I like to capture the actual day. Not an orchestrated version of it but the real events the, real emotions and all the amazing memories that come with them.

I've been shooting weddings for the last 12 years. I started out on my own when I was 19 and as you can imagine, found it hard to get work at the start. People were, understandably, reluctant to rely on a 19 year old for such an important event. That soon changed though and recommendations started to come through.

Due to me starting out relatively young, I never worked for another photographer. I think this is why, in a lot of ways I have a different outlook than other photographers when it comes to weddings. I don't restrict couples to an eight hour shoot for example, but start at Bridal Prep and shoot through 'til at least the First Dance and usually the party as it gets going in earnest. This makes sense to me as it's the only real way to capture the whole day.

I also never really went in for the staged photos, they're necessary often to keep parents happy, and they do offer a record of the day, but I'm not a big fan and tend to get the formal shots done and dusted quite quickly. That way you can actually enjoy the day. Spending it with friends rather than posing in front of a camera, and it works for me as the best photos are caught on the hoof. You have to be on the ball as a photographer but that's half the fun.
