Choosing your wedding photographer can be a daunting task especially when there are so many great photographers to choose from. UKbride have put together the top 15 questions to ask you wedding photographer!
1. What is your style of photography?
This is important to ask as you need to make sure you are comfortable with the style of the photography. It is also worth checking out different types of photographers to know what style you like, do you want natural relaxed photos, quirky or fun images, traditional, journalists etc.
2. Can I see examples of complete wedding albums?
This will allow you to see the photographers full work rather than the key images they have chosen to show you.
3. What wedding packages do you offer?
You need to know exactly what is included in the package, does it include an album, USB stick etc.
4. How many hours of coverage do we get?
If you opt for a full day package you want to make sure the photographer is staying up until at least the first dance.
5. What key images will you shoot?
This is your time to get advice from the photographer and to speak about the images you would like.
6. Are you insured?
A professional wedding photographer needs to have indemnity and public liability insurance.
7. Do you have any qualifications?
Many photographers will have gained a photography degree, officially called BA (Hons) Professional Communications.
8. Have you taken photos at my venue before?
If not, ask them if they are you happy to visit the venue before the wedding day. Most photographers will want to see the venue before the big day to get a clear indication of the photos they will be able to get.
9. Will it just be you photographing on the day?
You need to be prepared on how many photographers will actually be there on your big day. An experienced photographer will try to capture your big day from a distance and not be too obtrusive. For a big wedding there is usually the main photographer and an assistant.
10. What would happen if you were ill on the day?
Usually photographers are part of a guild of photographers or a professional network which will help find an alternative photographer for you on the day if this happens.
11. How long have you been a photographer?
Ideally, if budget allows you want to choose an experienced photographer. On your wedding day you want to be relaxed and you need to trust that the photographer is getting the shots you want.
12. What do you usually wear for weddings?
This may seem like a silly question but if you are having a black tie themed wedding the last thing you want is your photographer turning up in shorts and Converse.
13. How long will it take before photos are ready?
You will want to see the photos ASAP and it can be agonising having to wait so it is best to be prepared.
14. Do I have copyright of the images?
You want to make sure you are allowed to print as many copies of your photos as you need and if you can post the images on social media without having to pay any extra.
15. Do you offer any extras?
This can include engagement shoots, photo booths, albums etc. Many photographers will included engagement shoots within their packages as this will give you a chance to be at ease in front of the camera and to get to know the photographer.
