The mill in which the venue is sited was formerly built as a cotton spinning mill and played an important part in history and the industrial revolution. It was originally powered by two water wheels to spin and weave cotton. In 1856 the addition of a steam engine came in when the building was rebuilt. It continued to be driven by steam and water until the 1940's when electricity took over. The mill was still in use producing towelling products until December 2000, making it the longest continuous period of cotton production in the United Kingdom. The renovation has retained the industrial architecture of the 1800's, including barrell vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and cast iron columns and beams. The venue is situated in 'The Gorge Under The Town' which gives the site a dramatic countryside vista, yet we're in the centre of a town with direct trains to Manchester, Sheffield and Buxton. The venue is exclusively yours! On site accommodation for up to seventeen is available. Some of the mill outbuildings have been converted into accommodation.
