Welcome to The Coppermines Mountain Wedding venue, a venue like no other in the English Lake District. With magnificent views to the Coniston fells above and Coniston Water in the valley.
The Coppermines Mountain Wedding Venue is a family owned wedding venue in the English Lake District and we are proud to welcome couples year upon year to celebrate their incredible day.
A business originally developed from the restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coppermines Valley.
From arrival, the venue is exclusively yours and you have the freedom to decide how you wish your celebration to unfold. There are just a few rules we ask you to follow but there are no set timetables and your occasion can be as unique as desired. We can guarantee that no two weddings held at The Coppermines are ever the same.
One thing we do point out is that our wedding venue is situated in a true mountain environment.
We are licensed to hold weddings in our Copper Barn, situated just a few hundred feet from our mountain cottages. This spacious yet intimate barn can comfortably hold 110 guests seated and offers views out across to the Old Man of Coniston.
We are also licensed to hold civil marriage ceremonies in one of the larger reception rooms, found in the Sawyers Cottage. The room can comfortably hold 50 people seated and other guests are able to view the ceremony from outside through the wide entrance double doors to this cottage, utilising an extra pagoda marquee.
What we have here is pretty special however don’t just take our word for it. The venue was a finalist in the 'Wedding Venue of the Year' category at the 2017 Cumbria Tourism Awards, is situated within a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and to top it all off sits in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
If you are looking for a traditional church wedding then there is the beautiful St Andrews Anglican Church in Coniston, along with a Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and Coniston Methodist Church.
A wedding marquee or tipi at The Coppermines has a fantastic atmosphere and is a wonderful place to celebrate, dine and dance the night away. We have a large level area lying alongside the cottages which can accommodate various sizes of marquee or tipi which can be accessed directly from our reception rooms.
The largest marquee that can be sited can seat around 250 people for a wedding breakfast and host up to 300 people ‘buffet style’ for an evening reception. We advise that all events at the Coppermines held in marquees/tipis should have a separate, smaller catering section included, giving your chosen outside catering company a designated workspace away from the main buildings/wedding party.
The venue features four warm and welcoming cottages which interlink to form one large house, sleeping up to 22 people. There’s four reception rooms, 10 en-suite bedrooms and even four outdoor hot tubs for your private use. The properties are traditional Lakeland cottages and are therefore fairly compact, but all are charming with exposed beams, stone walls, log fires and contemporary oak and leather furniture throughout.
All essential services are available including a disabled toilet at ground level, but our cottage kitchens are essentially for the use of the small number of cottage residents.
Our venue offers a space where you can create memories to last a lifetime over a relaxing weekend, midweek or full week period.
There is also parking available on site for 50+ cars, with adequate space for manoeuvring.

Our team is small, therefore we are able to forge a meaningful rapport with our wedding couples. We pride ourselves on knowing each and every one of our properties inside and out, meaning we can always give you, as the guest, honest and reliable information. Our team is based in the pretty Lakeland village of Coniston, meaning we are never too far from our mountain wedding venue.

What is the style of your wedding? Traditional, contemporary, rustic, bohemian? Keep this in mind when considering venues, does the venue ‘fit’ in with your chosen style.
Visit the venue more than once – Before confirming make sure that you have all the information you need. First impressions count however there is nothing wrong with asking to view the venue again.
