The venue was in the process of making the bar area and we were told the outer toilets would be rebuilt by the time we married in 2020 so we were very excited.
The following summer, we both brought our families to the venue which is a 4/5 hour drive. I would say, there was around 30 of us, all of which paid for camping on site.
The bar had been completed but we were disappointed to see the outside toilets still standing and very run down. We were told plans were still in the pipeline.
Fast forward Jan 2020 and we had paid around 3K off the venue hire and everything was going to plan until covid hit.
We waited patiently for lock down to ease but the situation continued to get worse so we asked Nic if we can cancel our wedding as we had already waited 2 years and we didn’t want the stress of the unknown as our families/friends were asking if the weddings still on a daily basis.
Nic replied and she said the best they can do is refund us half the money paid which was around £1500 or move the date. Her words were its only fair you lose half, and we lose half… we felt pushed into a corner, so we decided to postpone our wedding to August 2021.
As you may be aware, when booking with Llyn Gwynant you must use their preferred suppliers, so we booked our catering with Simon Dale at Raynard and Brock and Pizza with Wendy at Amore Pizza.
A few months after Covid hit, both suppliers went silent. They ignored calls and emails. Nic at was very unhelpful when attempting contact them so I had to track them down myself.
I tracked Simon Dale via an old works email address, and he replied after 6 months of silence. He promised to pay our £650 deposit back but 2 years later, I’m still waiting for this payment and he’s still ignoring my calls/emails.
I found Wendy as she made local headlines due to post a bout Black lives Matter, I won’t go into details but after a heated exchange she eventually refunded our deposit.
Our band also refused to give us a refund, so we lost another £250.
Fast forward to Jan 2021. We’re all in lockdown with no idea of when this is going to end, so we ask Nic to give us a full refund, as these events out of our control and we don’t want to wait another year to get married, we just want to walk away.
Nic replied and agreed to refund us some of the money but they’re keeping £500 to cover their costs… we had no choice but to except.
Obviously, we’re very hurt from the situation, we aren’t a business, we can’t recoup our savings, so our wedding has been put on the back burner for the foreseeable.
It’s a real shame to see our dream location turn into a nightmare
