I'm desperate to loose weight, and I have in the past year had 6 months of xenical and the reminder of calorie controlled dietician monitoring, and in 1 year i've hardly lost any weight, blood tests are all normal. I love running and working out at the gym, and honestly my food diaries have been reviewed and 99% of the time is spot on. I also have a Ki Fit so I know my calorie intake and total deficit, but still am struggling. I've got a new PT session on Tuesday, but I've kept myself pretty active anyway.

As the title suggests, I went to our wedding fayre today and there was a consultant there from Lighterlife, the spiel about re-programming my attitude towards food really seemed to make sense, so I wondered if anyone else had tried the programme and if so had got any results from it or if there are any negative points to be aware of?

I don't like it, I have seen people come into hospital thinking they were dying and then after closer questioning it has turned out that they were doing this diet - ok so it's only 1 or 2 people but still it gives me the shivers as a diet. I know someone who did it under instruction from her GP and she was fine, but it turned out the only way in which she ever lost weight was by having gastric band surgery! How much do you weigh?? Or if you don't like that one, whats your BMI?

    I'm now a married woman
    I have a gorgeous husband

i havnt done it but i know a 4 people that have. 2 of my friends are on it at the moment. one of them was my ex boyfriend. he was on it when we were together and the results were amazing!! he lost so much weight and has kept it off.

It helps you lose weight and then teaches you to eat again.

my friend claire has been on it 4 weeks. she goes to her counsilling (sp) every saturday for 2 hours and this is meant to help you. it costs £68 a week but that is for all your food packs and everything. you can only drink water so if like her you like to go out and drink and buy your own food then the cost is worth it.

out of the people that i know that have done it they say the first 3 days are the hardest and once you have past them it is so easy!

my friend claire has already lost 1stone 12lb in 4 weeks!

the positives are you get support throughout when you are on the diet. you can phone your tutor at any time if you feel like you need to. you lose weight really easily. it is easy to follow. you still have loads of energy. my friend says she has more energy now than she did before and has even started zumba while on it!

negatives hard for first few days cant eat or drink anything.

obv there are move positives but because i havnt actually done it i dont know them all.

if you really want to lose weight and have tried other diets/ways then this really does work!

    hope this has helped xx

I'm ok with my weight so don't mind sharing, I weigh 13st 11lbs with a bmi of 33.1 and at 5ft 4'' I'm about 2-3stone from where I want to be. I've have 4 children in 9 years and for one reason or another all of them were c-section babies, so after my 4th was born 2 1/2 years ago I weighed 16st 12lbs, so I have lost some weight, it's just since Sept last year despite being on WW and workingout 2-3 times a week I have stayed at the 13 11 mark, with hardly any fluctuation. I just feel at deaperation point as I want to loose weight before my wedding also have set myself a goal for getting into a smaller than I was wedding dress - which in fairness has worked out ok as I'm only 2-3 inches from doing it up (was 8ish) so I have toned, just not lost any weight at all! GP/Dietician have just encouraged me on the calorie controlled diet (as I needed to have a BMI of over 35 to be considered for surgery). I'm just soo frustrated

I did lose about 3st with SW but reached the weight I am now last sept and it wouldn't budge, to add a little variety I started WW last sept and have lost 7lbs in 6months, which as been frustrating to say the least. I complete my tracker and food diarys for my personal trainer and dietician and overall I have a fairly healthy diet. I don't drink nor smoke and I do maintain excercise - infact have been training for race for life last month) so I know it isn't for the want of trying

emsy5000. i have to disagree. my ex was massive when he went on it and lost so much weight. we are still friends and in the 2 half years since he has been off it he has put back on 2lb!! so it does work for some.

it may not work for all but there is no diet that works for everyone. that is why there are so many.

as i have just said to hunny bunny before you start on it you have to go to your doctor who makes sure you are healthy abd if there is anything wrong in the slighest your not allowed to do it. you are also closely monitored when you are on it to make sure you are ok.

I'm not against lighterlife but I'm not for it either..

My aunt and uncle have been on and off lighterlife for about 2 maybe 3 years now, they do amazing and loose weight and then as soon as food is introduced back into there diet they start putting back on, even when they are eating healthy!

    But they do loose..

I'm desperate to loose weight and I'm trying everything at the moment and nothing seems to work, I think I've put on in the last couple of weeks when the 2 weeks before I had lost 4lb but I haven't done anything differently. If I was all for lighterlife I';d be the first to go on it but I'm really not sure about it and it's ALOT of money

The founder, Jackie Cox is around 14 stone maybe more as she doesn't reveal her exact weight but experts looking at pictures of her say she can be no lighter than 14 stone (I'd say she was more than that looking at the pictures that's been put up of her, sorry to seem mean but she looks alot bigger than me and I;m 16 and a half stone!) Lighterlife has also been linked to the death of a bride to be who was found dead and suffered from heart failure after following lighterlife for 11 weeks. A pathologist was UNWILLING TO RULE OUT her diet as the cause of her death.

there may be reasons that she isnt allowed to do it. there are so many medical reasons that can stop people being allowed to do.

when my friend went to the doctor to make sure she was healthy enough he told her it was a good idea doing it as she has tried to lose weight so many times and never managed it

Hi Kirst4Paul, yeah I've had all the blood tests, had those before I started on the 6 months of Xenical.

I'm not saying I'm 100% all of the time, but I do have a Ki Fit monitor - like a body bug - and it is very useful in telling me what calories I have burnt and what calories I have consumed. I can print these reposts of and thats what I take to the GP. Thier suggestion - perseverance! Just feels like thats what I've always done. I think I'm gonna spend a couple of hours googling it, some stories are very worrying.

My dads fiancee was on it, she 2 yrs older than me, lost 9 stone in 6 months, 3 yrs later it all went back on, plus more. She is now following a healthy normal plan.
Her hair started to thin and fall out, her teeth started to get weak and sensitive.

For a quick fix it does work. I myself have tried the other version and it worked for me, but its all the same. As soon as you go back to normality and eat normal food of course its going to go back on again.

If I can be honest I wouldnt recommend it, but its up to you what you do.
Instead of paying for that, why dont you pay for the peeps that do the low cal dinners. it will cost you just as much and then you are in control of exact cals.

    Good luck xxxx

Don't bother!! as soon as you come off it there is no maintenance plan, they say there is but it lasts for a week...thats no good! I know several people that have been on it and the same thing has happened to them all, When you lose weight you need to be doing it for good which means re-training your pallet. How can you re-train when your not eating?
I, like you am struggling to lose, also I have had xenical which constipated me and I am finding it hard to maintain let alone lose and with 5 stone to lose it shouldn't be this difficult! All bloods cam back as normal so there is no reason for the lack of loss other than food!
Write out your menu for the day and stick to it. If you are a calorie counter (like me) then make sure your calories are set right. The old rule of thumb used to be if you have more than 3 stone cals should be 1750 between 1-3 stone cals 1500 under 1 stone cals 1250.
There is a lot of talk about weather you should eat your exercise cals. Have a look on my wall and you will see the website I use, it's very very good and I am losing the weight now, but with just 14 weeks to the wedding I can opnly hope to lose another 1.5-2 stone but it's a loss all the same. xx

I did Cambridge, which is similar. My sister had lost 5 stone on it, and she found it SO easy! so I went on it and lost a stone in a fortnight. BUT, all I could think about was food. Yes it was easy to start with, and I was never hungry. But coming home and cooking for H2B was a nightmare.
It got to the point where I felt like I was going to give myself an eating disorder, i because so obsessed with the Cambridge forums, and thinking and talking about food. So I came off it. My sister has also put all the weight back on too. And once you come off it, it is SO hard to get back on it again.

having said all that, if i am still struggling a few months before the wedding to lose this 2 stone i need to lose, then I will be going back on it! but will be having the healthy meal at night instead of just shakes or soups. A quick fix, but by no means a permanent solution.

My dietician isn't convinced about the unlimited fruit but between WW and the dietician, I keep my diet well so both are happy, oh aswell as the personal trainer being ok with the food diary I do, maybe I don't eat enough lol

Hi I am another advocat of WW - I don't think Lighterlife is a good solution to the problem, I've never done it but have heard reports of health issues, hair loss, and bad breath! Plus honestly, I think it would make me miserable, but that's just me.

I don't have that much to lose, maybe a stone, and I lost 6lb in 2 weeks doing the ww propoints, both weekends I had a takeaway and a bottle of wine! I do know everyone is different tho - but my advice would be to choose something that is sustainable in the long run and in 'real life' - because although you may see results at first and be really happy, it'll make you all the more frustrated when it goes back on x

I think personally that the price would put me off straight away as £68.00 could feed all of us for a week not just me. I think that all diet's have horror stories attached to them as the Atkins diet did when that was first introduced. Is this diet like the 'Jenny Craig' diet then?

I've never been a fan if slimming clubs as I was dragged to them by my mum when I was little. And unfortunately she is still struggling with her weight. I have since planning this wedding thought about attending one but instead I'm going to start going swimming a couple of evenings a week and reduce my calories myself, as I have worked out that this will cost about the same; as a slimming club not the lighter life diet.

Whatever you decide good luck and stay healthy x
