We are having a buffet & was wondering is it worth getting name places & a table plan or letting people sit where they want and that way not seat them with people they dont know/dont get on with? xx

thats the thing our budget can only cover a buffet & not both, most the people who will be at the church will be at the reception anyway so dont know wether to put on the invites about a buffet or add that when i do the direction cards etc xx

I would prob still go for name cards actually. I find that if not you get odd empty seats here and there and some people having to sit on their own with people they don't know very well x x x

another q aswell while i am here, if we dont have the name cards then how do the favours work? because we are having one set of favours for the adults & one set for the kids do you think it would be worth mentioning on the invites about a special treat for the kids? xxx

Name cards give you some control over who sits where. Perhaps you want certain people who haven't met to be introduced to each other for the first time or perhaps you can think of people who definitely would not get on sitting on the same table. It also saves the problem of the awkwardness when people go to sit down and are not sure exactly where to sit or who they should be sitting with. Mind you maybe its just my family with very conflicting personalities where certain combinations would be potent! if you don't have that problem it's less of an issue. xx

We are having a buffet and not bothering with place cards as we want people to wander about and mingle, inside and outside, there are lots of tables and chairs so people can basically sit where and with who they want, its all going to be very relaxed! And it means I dont have to bother with named favours, just doing a big bowl with colour coordinated sweets in for people to dip into.

lol calla thats what i was thinking about people mingling, i know h2b's side of the family are very sociable & so are my mates who are coming, i know that my dad's side will want to stick to the same table (if they come) and are pretty judgemental (we are the black sheep of the family because my dad married someone who wasnt british) xx

I'm having a hog roast and kind of buffet... am planning to have 3 or 4 proper tables because of the older generation of people at the wedding, so am considering name cards, but am not sure... xxx

My first wedding was just a buffet and we didnt bother with a table plan. Everybody enjoyed going round talking to each other and not many (apart from my nan) actually stayed in their seats as they were too busy catching up with friends and family :-)
We put the favours in the middle of the tables around the bottom of the centre pieces.

But everybody is different so its up to you, this time were having a 3 course buffet so doing a table plan hehehe

i personally wouldnt go for place cards, only reason is that a buffet is less foraml and the place cards are.... as for favors, if you dont have the cards, you can put them all in a central place and people can help them selves.

The thing to remember aboiut favors is not everyone takes them I have place cards and favors on each place and ended up with about 20 left at the end of the night..... whats your gut feeling? x

Favours - label them and put them all by the entrance of your room..so guests can collect them as they pass!

that's an excellent idea but can't do that with mine as the card holders are little bells that double up as photo holders :s

It's up to you but my experience was I went to a wedding and although I appreciate the bride and groom were struggling with money, I felt that we only there to add to their 'wedding fund' as they asked for a cash present (I was more than happy to do this!!) and it was a bit of a free for all!! Even worse I never even got a thank you card!! xx
