The Real Wedding of Lavinia & Valmik

Lavinia & Valmik's Wedding Story

How did you meet; what attracted you to one another?

Lavinia - We met back in 2015, at the workplace. Valmik was working weekends and I was working
full-time. We used to work on same shift on the weekends and always looked forward to working on
weekends which is very opposite to usual.

Both - What attracted us to one another was each other’s personality and being in each other’s
company felt very natural.

When was the moment you knew you found the one?

Valmik - I always felt that there was something special from the beginning and the more time I spent
with Lavinia and got to know her made me believe that she was the one.

•Who proposed? How, when, where?

Lavinia - Valmik proposed on 27th June 2021. We went for a trip to Cornwall and the proposal was
on the coast next to the sea (Bedruthan Steps) on a rainy day. We reached the top of the hill and he
made sure that not many people were around as he knew that it would have made me feel
uncomfortable.

The location was special for both of us. Valmik grew up next to the ocean and I always loved
mountains. It was a total surprise.

What attracted you to Wortley Hall?

We love the countryside and we knew from the beginning we wanted something outskirts.
Wortley Hall had everything we needed: history, architecture, location, beautiful gardens and
proximity to the Peak District. Felt like a fairytale in a vintage English setting.

Give details about the decorative touches you included in the day; how did they reflect your
theme/colour scheme?

Both - We both love travelling (we travelled together to 17 countries so far) and we knew from the
beginning we will include this in our theme.
In terms of the colour, we wanted something to match the venue's interior design and we chose
sage green.
Please include:

Favours - The favours were handmade. We had a small bottle of tuica, which is a traditional
Romanian drink and a small sachet of various nuts brought from India. We added our countrys flags
to reflect the travel theme.

Centrepieces - The centrepieces were flowers in the middle of the table surrounded by candles.
Farm House Flowers and Those Cherished Moments were the suppliers who transformed the venue
into what we dreamt of. They did an amazing job!

Flowers - Lucy from the Farm House Flowers took care of this and they were absolutely beautiful.

Cake - Martina from Delicious Pink Cakery created a stunning cake for us. It was 2 tier cake with 2
different flavours Raffaelo and Lemon and Raspberry. We loved it.

Place names - There were handmade by me. I love calligraphy and thought was a good moment to
practice it and add that personal touch. Everyone loved it.

Table names - Were designed by myself and Valmik, representing the maps of different countries
we travelled to.

Any other venue décor - Sara from Those Cherished Moments helped in decorating the library
(ceremony room); the foundry dining room (wedding breakfast) and the boardroom (evening
reception). Everything looked stunning.

Transport – People travelled from all over the world, Valmik’s parents and friends took a 9hrs flight
from India and my parents drove from Romania as their flight was cancelled and the next available
flight was on the day of the wedding. Some of our guests decided to drive to the location so they
could enjoy the beauty of the peak district and countryside.

What did you wear - why did you choose that particular style?
How did you accessorise it?

Lavinia - I bought my dress from Romania and is Mireasa Moderna creation called Inspiration
The dress combines traditional Romanian notes with modern notes and represents me completely. I
accessorised with a simple long veil, headband, and earrings and the shoes were custom-made by
Ancolette, a Romanian brand.

Valmik - I wore a Navy checked suit from Remus Uomo and then got it tailored by Tailors in
Nottingham who did a splendid job.

What did the bridesmaids wear?

Lavinia - I had only my MOH, Alina, who is like a sister to me (and now to Valmik), and she wore
an Asos dress in autumn colours. She looked absolutely stunning.

Also, as a Romanian tradition, we chose to have Godparents. They are very close friends of ours and
played a very special place in our wedding. Adriana, the Godmother, wore a beautiful long green
dress and Andrei, the Godfather, a brown suit. They are truly a match made in heaven.

How did you entertain your guests?

We had a harpist for our ceremony and wedding breakfast Emily and her harp. All the
guests commented on how beautiful the atmosphere was.

During the reception drinks, we used a Spotify playlist and during the evening reception, we had a
DJ. We played Indian, Romanian and English music throughout the evening and all the guests
enjoyed it. It was a beautiful mix of cultures.

How did you both feel on the day?

Everyone who attended our wedding had to come by flight, train or via car and this came
with several surprises. My parents flight was cancelled just two days before the wedding and they
had to drive from Romania to the UK.

They reached the UK at midday before the wedding day. That was a very difficult situation to deal
with just before the big day, but fortunately, everything came into place in the end. Valmik’s parents
flew from India to the UK for the first time, another cancelled flight for a friend of mine and some of
our friends’ cars broke down on the wedding day and they arrived after the ceremony.

All the above made us very emotional and we both felt so amazingly lucky to be surrounded by the
people we love the most on our big day.

What parts stood out for you the most?

The ceremony, the speeches and the evening reception. The ceremony and the speeches
were very emotional and the evening reception was full of fun and laughter.
