The Real Wedding of Dominique & John

Dominique & John's Wedding Story

When I think about the way that John and I first met, it is the evidence to me that fate and soulmates must exist.

We met while working in a little pub in Beeston, The Nurseryman to be specific, a waitress and a barman. John will always tell the story of the girl with the eyes and I will tell you about that boy with the smile. It was the most timely of meets. I had only just finished begging the manager of the pub to take me with him from his previous job, and John had handed in his 2 week notice. Had I not convinced my manager for another few weeks (I'd been asking for months!) Then me and John would never have met.... or would we.

We started dating in the March, by April he invited me to his passing out parade for the Army Reserves after which he told me he loved me in a small little delicatessen, Edins Cafe, Nottingham. We spent every moment we could together. I am NOT a morning person and yet I'd be up at 5am to catch the first bus into town and the first train to his house, getting there for 9am most mornings and not leaving until 10pm most nights to do the same hour journey home. By September that year we had moved in together and became the proud owners of Steve and Sophie, two kitties John brought home one day as a surprise so that I would never be alone when the Reserves took him away for weeks of training.

Fast forward a few years of houses, jobs and university, John and I decided to a bring another little soul into the world, and along came our Wonderful, intelligent, hilarious little boy, Joel. Next our dog Freya joined the family and in a very matter of fact way we decided after 5 years, isn't it about time we got married!

Two years later, I went to work as a teaching assistant, and another story of Fate began.

I had only started at this school as a supply, but very quickly I was asked to stay on and I made many friends, one particularly kind woman who made me laugh every time I spoke to her and the school a far more tolerable place to be, happened to mention one day that her husband was a photographer. Simon Dewey, I'd heard that name before but I didn't know where, turns out it was 2 years prior when I had been searching for photographers. When I got home, I found him on facebook went on his website and I thought WOW these photos are amazing, we'd been engaged two years with no date set but I remember thinking how wonderful it would be if Simon could one day take our wedding photos. A simple dream in early 2019.

2019 was the whirlwind year that I found "my dream job" at a different school, then found out I was pregnant, had my beautiful, adventurous, unstoppable Jack. Then of course came the covid 19 maternity leave and the chaos that was 2020.. by the end of it we said no more waiting! 2022 would be our 10 year anniversary, we had two amazing little boys, a dog, two cats, the wedding seemed the only thing that had eluded us all this time. So we sat in bed and planned the perfect wedding in Cornwall with only our close friends… then a few months later, threw the plan in the bin and started again, this time a little bit bigger and closer to home! In planning the first we realised we were missing so many of our family and friends who we love so dearly and couldn't do it without.
