The Real Wedding of Ella & Adam

Ella & Adam's Wedding Story

•How did you meet; what attracted you to one another?
Ella: Adam & I went to the same school and I actually had a crush on him when he was in Sixth Form when he didn’t know I existed! We didn’t actually start dating until several years later.

Adam: Her beautiful personality, kind, sassy, sarcastic and extremely funny. She’s also absolutely gorgeous!!

•When was the moment you knew you found the one?
Ella: I feel like I’ve experienced several of these moments. I knew he was an amazing boyfriend very early on - he’s super attentive and supportive. I realised I was head over heels a year in on holiday and I knew the moment he proposed that there was nobody else I would rather spend my life with.

Adam: Likewise with Ella’s answer, numerous moments throughout the years but one which stands out would be our time in Egypt, specifically walking the beach in the evening.

Popping the question

•Who proposed? How, when, where? Was the timing/date significant in any way? Was it a surprise?
Ella: Adam proposed at The Grand in York which we had visited several years in a row for our anniversaries, on our 4th anniversary. He might say otherwise (!) but it was truly perfect. We’d enjoyed drinks and a meal out in York and then he proposed in the hotel room when we got back.

Adam: Meal out at our favourite restaurant in York with a few drinks. I asked the Grand to dress the room for when we arrived back from the meal. As we arrived I asked Ella to close her eyes as we walked into the room, I looked around at a normal room with no decorations and got down on one knee. The moment was still everything we could have asked for.

•What attracted you to the venue/s you chose for the day?
Ella: East Yorkshire Barns was the only venue we visited in person. It was undergoing a lot of work at the time but we loved Kate & Ed’s vision and they were so warm and welcoming that we had our heart set on it from the start.

Adam: The only venue we ever went to see, immediately fell in love with the owners and what they would bring to the day.

Favours
Ella: Adam’s mum and stepdad actually made and boxed fudge for us. It was so delicious!

Adam: There wasn’t much outside of born boho and our neighbour (florist) who helped set up the venue for the special day. Just little touches of mainly food, donut wall, sweet jars and fudges.

Centrepieces
Ella: We kept this super natural and simple - lots of greenery and candles to suit the barn wedding style.

Flowers
Ella: Our wonderful neighbour did our flowers. They were very focused around natural greenery with white and sage green touches. We used a lot of gypsophila which we have now dried and used for decoration in the house.

Any other venue décor
Ella: Born Boho did a great job at helping us decorate. Claire used a stunning halo with white lace and greenery to decorate the barn which looked incredible.

Catering options
Ella: On our ice cream we also had personalised wafers with our names, the date and the venue which was such a special touch.

•What did you wear?
Ella: My dress was a brand called White April, stocked at Chloe Jane Bridal in Howden, Yorkshire. I wanted something super floaty and beautiful but comfortable. Last thing I wanted to worry about on the day was being uncomfortable in my dress!
I accessorised with a gorgeous handmade headband from Aurora Bridal that I also bought through Chloe Jane.

Adam: Neutral suit from Moss bros, it was the first suit I saw as I walked into the store. Knew it was the one as I walked in! Accessorised with a watch the best men bought me and a pocket watch passed down through the family on my mum’s side.

•What did the bridesmaids wear? Colour/style?
Ella: The bridesmaids wore dresses from Asos in a gorgeous sage green colour. They were all slightly different so they felt and looked their best on the day!

Time to celebrate
•How did you entertain your guests? Did you have any performers, such as live band, magician, caricaturist? Were they a hit with the guests and why?

Adam: Nothing outside the box, our DJ did a great job in the evening. The venue is perfect for socialising between the buildings with the seating and fire pit.

Memorable moments

•How did you both feel on the day?
Ella: I was so nervous the full morning, just preparing for such a big day. After we were officially married, I just couldn’t stop smiling and feel so overwhelmed with love from everyone. That hasn’t worn off yet!

Adam: I felt completely fine and calm until I got to the venue, this soon turned to a feeling of extreme nerves until we were holding hands. I was still shaking at this point I must add. Once we were married I couldn’t stop smiling.

•What parts stood out for you the most?
Ella: 100% the speeches. It was so special to have the people we love take the time to say such beautiful things. Having this recorded is just incredible so we can always look back on this moment.

Adam: completely agree with Ella’s comment but I would also add walking around the venue together with yourself and Josh. Just having that time together after we had got married and taking it all in.

•Who/what made your day extra special? Eg, a friend’s speech/ supplier that went above and beyond?

Adam: All of the best men, friends and family. Special mention to Josh for going absolutely above and beyond.

Honeymoon
•Where did you go? How long for? Who planned it? Did you enjoy it?
Ella: We went to the Cotswolds for a minimoon straight after. It was absolutely stunning and we lucked out with the weather! The perfect getaway.

Adam: Ella did all the planning for the Cotswolds as she needs to be an organised queen. Wouldn’t have been the same without her doing this! It was amazing.

Your top wedding planning/on the day tip:
Ella: Stop, breathe and take it all in. It truly does pass in the blink of an eye.

Adam: It flies by, take it all in.
