The Real Wedding of Laura & Ryan

Laura & Ryan's Wedding Story

A classic burgundy and silver colour scheme – with a little Star Wars touch – graced the Boat House for Laura & Ryan Garbett’s May 4th wedding…

Having researched Staffordshire wedding venues, bride-to-be Laura knew within minutes of arriving at the Boat House for a viewing that it was where wanted to get married – and on a second visit a few weeks later, fiancé Ryan didn’t take any persuading.

With the venue booked for Friday 4th May 2018, the couple – still living at their parents’ homes in Stafford and Cannock respectively – began planning their big day. With the majority of family living in the area, reservations were made at nearby hotels for the few guests who didn’t want to travel home the same evening. Rather than a strict theme, Ryan and Laura decided on an elegant combination of burgundy and silver and, as the wedding was taking place on May the fourth, guests were presented with Star Wars shot glasses as favours.

On the day itself, a beautiful May morning greeted the 54 guests as they arrived at the Boat House for the civil wedding ceremony. With the venue dressed to perfection by Melissa of Bespoke Creations, who also arranged the flowers, the beautiful Bride walked down the aisle with her dad to ‘So Close’ from Disney’s Enchanted. Following an emotional exchanging of vows, the couple and their guests moved into The Boat House’s landscaped grounds while photographer Frances Coleman captured the essence of the celebration. When they moved back inside, the room was transformed from a ceremony space ready for the wedding breakfast, with the party enjoying a 3 course meal comprising a starter of vegetable soup bread roll; roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings for main and the marina’s award-winning chocolate brownie served with ice cream for dessert.

When it came to the cake, a good friend of Laura and Ryan’s offered to make the wedding cake as a gift; a rich fruit cake with marzipan and icing on the bottom, chocolate cake with icing in the middle and Victoria sponge with icing on the top, all of which was beautifully decorated with sugar craft roses, calla lilies and ruffles on the bottom tier. Guests were also treated to a cake pop handmade by the bride and one of her bridesmaids the day before the wedding as part of their favour.

Once the meal and the speeches were complete, over 50 additional guests joined the evening party to celebrate with more food, drink and dancing. Laura says:

“The team at The Boat House are brilliant and were on hand to help us with every little thing, back from when we booked our wedding in 2016 all the way up until the day. Even when we had to make some very last-minute changes due to the passing of my Nanna, they were there to help in any way they could. I genuinely don’t think we would have got this level at service at any other venue.”

With their perfect day behind them, couple jetted off for a relaxing two week in Cape Verde.
