Information For The Tithe Barn

The Tithe Barn is part of the Hinton St Mary Estate and the venue only became available for hire in 2020. New to weddings, we feel like one of Dorset's best kept secrets.

The Tithe Barn may be a medieval hall, and has been standing for more than 400 years, however we are new to weddings and our first wedding was in December 2020. Why not be one of the first to plan your wedding at Hinton St Mary? We offer the barn on a 3 day, dry hire basis. We have accommodation on site and a fantastic pub in the village. Everything is within walking distance including the church, so park the car and unwind. This makes a great base for you to enjoy a relaxed weekend of celebrations, set up on the Friday with friends and family - perhaps drinks in the Summer House inside the walled garden of the Tithe Barn, and then why not wander up the road for supper in the pub? Saturday you can get ready on site and never worry about the expense of wedding cars or traffic - either marry in St. Peter's church or in the grounds of Hinton Manor Gardens. We try and make everything as easy as possible, so there is no energy wasted fretting, and all of your energy is spent enjoying your wedding day to the full. Sunday we ask that the barn key be returned to us by 6.00pm so if you fancied, this give you time for a survivor's brunch or hangover BBQ before taking down your decorations and loading up your flowers and gifts. Not many venues offer dry hire, this means you can have the caterers of your choice, you can opt to bring your own booze or to hire a mobile bar. We don't charge corkage because we don't provide glasses or plates or cutlery. Everything needs to be brought to site but this is where you are more in charge of your budget. You can decide what you want and hire it in, and not be forced to use our furniture or glasses and we don't enforce a minimum spend. Dry hire is more of a DIY wedding, very personal and much more fun, with everyone mucking in at set up and clear down. Of course, we do have suppliers we'd be glad to recommend, so don't panic, we can point you in the right direction for brilliant wedding suppliers, or enjoy the freedom of using suppliers whom friends and family recommend. We really don't mind. Get in touch if you'd like to come and view and see the site for your self.

Exclusive use is offered over three days, a day to set up, then to marry and celebrate and finally the Sunday to BBQ or picnic before final departure at 6.00pm. We have accommodation on site too to make it extra easy to relax for the weekend in Dorset. Dry Hire means that you can bring in the caterers of your choice, run the bar as you wish with no corkage and hire in the tables and chairs, crockery and cutlery for the look and feel you want. We provide a blank canvas for the day of your dreams. The Tithe Barn has a stone summerhouse inside its walled garden, licenced for civil ceremonies. Ceremonies can also take place in the gardens of Hinton Manor, on the steps by the line of pleached trees surrounded by the scent of lavender and honeysuckle. Our Tithe Barn is medieval with an exposed timber ceiling. We can seat 100 guests inside for the wedding breakfast, on either long or round tables, it is entirely up to you. In summer throw open all the doors and in winter, why not light the real fire. The sunken garden of Hinton Manor provides an idyllic setting for your wedding reception, drinks, canapes and photographs. Steps lead down into this rose garden with a pond stretching across filled with lilies and reeds. Sip pimms and make new memories. We have three quirky cottages on site, accommodating 10 guests in total. Top Wedding Tips

The venue, the food and the music will make the biggest impression on your guests. They will also eat up the biggest chunk of your budget, so make sure the venue fits with your vision and dream day.

Call in favours wherever you can. If friends offer to make cakes, play instruments or to produce your invitations, accept their offer. It makes everything more personal, and much more thoughtful.

Plan pockets in your wedding day when you and your new life partner, can take two minutes to look into each other's eyes, and say WE DID IT! Taking time is important, the day will fly, steal a bit!

Our wedding was completely perfect.
Our wedding at Hinton St Mary's Estate was simply perfect! When looking for a venue it was important for us to have a relaxed and summer atmosphere which the estate certainly provided; with a beautiful walled garden, a tree lined promenade and a sunken garden there is so much space to wander and enjoy. We were able to get married outside, have the drinks reception in a separate space and then enjoy the stunning barn and walled garden for our wedding breakfast. Hinton St Mary's Estate is nestled in a beautifully quaint English village with a tiny pub and lots of beautiful walks - everywhere you look has perfect photo opportunities. Whilst it is remote there are stunning cottages on site which make everything so much easier. For us the venue was perfect because we could use the space for the whole weekend - this allowed for set up time and a BBQ the day after the wedding - making the whole experience last even longer. It is a dry hire venue and our caterers found working their easy and efficient - don't let having to hire furniture or bring in caterers put you off - Gail knows so many excellent ones and is able to talk them through the whole process.
Whilst the venue is stunning the wedding itself was made so much more efficient, more relaxed and smoother due to Gail. As compete novices and planning a large amount of the wedding remotely Gail was always on hand. She has years of experience which she is always ready to share and has a keen eye for detail which allows in the midst of manic wedding preparations for nothing to be forgotten. Gail was able to help us with suppliers, offer advice on lighting, where and how to stage our wedding, how to put my tables, and on the day helped calm my nerves and made sure the ceremony went smoothly. We cannot thank her enough! She is such an important asset to the venue; she is kind and generous with her time and experience and we were so lucky to plan our wedding with her.
Our wedding was completely perfect - guests raved out the venue, the space and its beauty and how seamless it all was. I would not hesitate to recommend Hinton St Mary's Estate.

Everything we could have wished for
Hinton St Mary’s Estate was everything we could have wished for in a wedding venue. From Gail’s enthusiasm to the sheer beauty of the venue. The grounds are simply breath-taking and when you have your wedding photographs taken it is such a wonderful backdrop to such a special day. The ability to have the venue for three days really added to our wedding experience, it gave us time to relax and enjoy the process which isn’t something you necessarily get at most other venues. Looking back on our day, we are so glad we went to go and see Hinton St Mary’s and fell in love with it right from the moment we arrived and we knew from the walk around that it was the place for us. Gail has amazing knowledge of the wedding industry and was able to give us a few pointers that really made our day stand out. The accommodation was brilliant, especially with the convenience of being right on site, which means there are no worries about arriving late for your walk down the aisle. The family who own the estate are also lovely and came by to wish us luck on the day which was such a lovely gesture and even saw us the day after to wish us well. We feel very lucky to have been one of the venue first weddings and we cannot recommend it enough!”
