The team at The Sussex Barn are disappointed to have been left this review by you, especially after all the work that went into planning your special day and delivering it to you on the day. We are even more saddened to be receiving this review when we had also spoken to your husband the day after, and all your points were addressed and talked through.

As to the points you raise, there has absolutely been no cover up for any loss of your personal items. We have always made it clear to all our couples that any personal effects that are left in the barn are left at the couples and all their guest’s risk. We have never experienced anything like this in the past and we will reiterate to all our future couples just how important it is to not leave any personal items unattended whilst they are on site so nothing similar happens again. As I said to your husband, I am sorry this has happened to you both and tarnished what was a beautiful day for you both, but please let me reassure you we did do our upmost to talk to anyone that could have come onsite during this time frame but sadly to no avail.
Our caterers pride themselves in the service they offer and have had nothing but positive feedback from all our couples for the quality of their food, their staff, and their service. Having spoken to your husband, he was going to take these points up directly with them so they could have had the opportunity to rectify and clarify your concerns, to date I understand this hasn’t happened, but they as are we more than happy to speak to you further on your concerns.

I am sorry that you were frustrated by the length of time it took for me to return your damage deposit. We held the deposit initially as some of our property was damaged and until we were sure it could be fixed and safely used again for our future guests your deposit was held. We returned your deposit in full as a gesture of good will, despite the additional cost to us to fix.

We pride ourselves in having a relaxed and flexible approach to ultimately give our couples the day they want. I thank you and your husband for bringing these points to our attention and I hope that despite these issues you had a wonderful day.

The most beautiful venue for a wedding. Lucy and Rachel were fantastic from start to finish. The food was incredible, thanks to Ricci and Mark at Kendale Catering. Highly recommended!

The Barn and location itself are beautiful it's just a shame that the rest was such a disappointment and massive let down!!!

We experienced theft, rudeness, had the mickey taken out of us by both the barn and caterers and then there's the lies and cover ups!

This places certainly lives up to "you get what you pay for" it's cheap for a reason!!!!

I'll bullet point our main issues for easy reading;

• My husband's rayban sunglasses were stolen by a member of staff. Caterer confirmed they were on our table at 12.30am when he locked up then in the morning the tables were removed along with the sunglasses. The only other people onsite until we got there to clean up were Rachael's team that she uses for the tables but apparently the sunglasses weren't there when she was onsite at 8am and her team arrived later. Very convenient!

• Rather than help look for or deal with the missing raybans by calling the people who were all onsite they were just rude and covering up the truth, one minute they're there the next they're not so somebody is lying or covering up!? They'd clearly been stolen and you'd expect the venue owners to help but nothing was done other than cover up for the thief!

• Several bottles of £10 a bottle table wine which was unopened were not returned to us, these where what we'd supplied ourselves.

• We paid for the "beverage service package" with the cash bar given free of charge however part way in to our wedding day the caterers told my husband that they were going to stop serving our own supplied drinks because the bar wasn't making enough money, although this was never mentioned at any point before our wedding and they knew exactly what we would be providing for our guests as we'd discussed this in person and when we gave it to them to chill 2 days before the wedding.

There were many other issues to add to our list!!!

So far so good ! They have been super helpful with the planning. We had to postpone our wedding because of covid and the hell they offered was above and beyond. With us for the whole journey !
