Information For Notley Tythe Barn
Nestling in a picturesque fold in the Chiltern Hills on the Bucks and Oxon border, Notley Tythe Barn is an ancestral part of the rural landscape.
The ancient Barn at Notley dates back to 1160 with its high beamed raftered roof, magnificent white washed hall and gallery. The Barn is cool in summer and heated for cosy atmospheric winter weddings. The beauty of the Barn is such that, although many couples fill it with flowers, which smell fantastic, the stunning beams and elegant structure are often a sufficiently beautiful backdrop in their own right.
The Reynolds family has farmed at Notley for some 350 years and in 1991 the barn was lovingly restored by owners, Nick and Denise Reynolds. Now its beam-raftered roof, its magnificent whitewashed hall and gallery echo not to the noise of harvest toil but to the sounds of wedding celebrations.
When Nick and Denise transformed the barn into a romantic wedding venue they wanted to make sure that it too shared the same family-run feel as the rest of the farm. Every detail is meticulously planned in advance, from the ceremony (Notley has a civil licence) to the seating, music, food and drinks.
Notley’s Chef, Peter, has been at the barn for many years. He revels in the freedom given to him to conjure a menu that, like the barn, is routed in the countryside. As many ingredients as possible are sourced locally and all eggs are free range. The Notley lamb has become something of a signature dish for Peter. It is slow cooked for 12 hours and emerges, tender and moist.
The barn can seat up to 140 guests, while a permanent marquee can accommodate another 60. The doors of the barn open directly onto a garden with an elegant canape and cocktail lawn and further grounds of up to an acre for guests to enjoy.
Longevity and permanence are key words at Notley and in the twenty five years since Nick and Denise welcomed the first couple they have hosted well over a thousand weddings. “You know you are doing something right when people come back to celebrate the weddings of other members of their families” says Denise.
No wonder Notley Tythe Barn is proving so popular. It’s a place that transforms a wedding reception into a wedding feast.

It was the last place on our list to visit and we both got emotional seeing the venue, knowing this was where we were supposed to get married, counting down the days!!!
