Information For Hay Castle

Hay Castle is an exclusive use wedding venue at the heart of the "World's First Town of Books". A desirable location with incredible views and an abundance of wedding appropriate amenities.

The castle is licensed to host weddings, blessings and civil ceremonies for a full-day exclusive hire of the fortress and its grounds. As only a select number of weddings take place here each year, it is a wonderful opportunity to weave your story into the fabric of Hay Castle's history. We can host ceremonies and receptions of up to 60 guests (plus an additional 40 evening guests) with a choice of stunning spaces to 'tie the knot', including the manicured castle lawn in fine weather with the incredible backdrop of the castle and views of the Black Mountains. Alternatively, intimate ceremonies (or wedding photos) can be held on the private medieval tower viewing platform, surrounded by a serene landscape and overlooking the rooftops of Hay and the river Wye. After the ceremony, celebrations continue with a fully tailored wedding feast, created by our catering partners Epicure Events and dancing accompanied by a live band or DJ in the 17th-century Great Hall, until midnight. Pets are also warmly welcomed here so that our couples can include their beloved friends on their special day.

The team at Hay Castle is highly attentive and works closely with you to elevate your wedding dreams and experience. The on-site wedding coordinator will guide you throughout your wedding planning journey, from the moment you first get in touch to your last twirl on the dancefloor. We have a list of trusted suppliers who can help you (but not restricted to) personalise the venue with floral designs, decorations, music and more.

Licensed to host weddings, blessings and civil ceremonies with a full-day exclusive hire of the fortress and grounds. With only a select number of weddings taking place each year, it is a rare opportunity to add your story into its incredible history. The castle can host ceremonies and receptions of up to 60 (plus an additional 40 evening guests) in its stunning spaces or for one lucky couple per year, we can host a wedding reception for 100-160 guests (May-Sep) on the manicured castle lawn. Intimate ceremony-only weddings can be held on the private medieval tower viewing platform, surrounded by the serene landscape and overlooking the rooftops of the town of books and the river Wye without a full castle closure. After the ceremony, celebrations continue with an impressive feast from our catering partners, Epicure Events, and dancing accompanied by a live band or DJ in the 17th-century great hall.
