As many are probably aware (and probs sick of hearing about), we're planning on having our wedding at Disneyland Florida in 6 years time. I've have done my research on behalf of my guests to see what the cheapest options are for them to enable them to come to our wedding.

The cheapest hotel in Disneyland for 3 nights (if they arrive 2 days before the wedding and leave the day after) will cost £441. However, 4 people can share a room, so per person it would cost £110 for the 3 nights.

The cheapest return flight ticket (economy) from London to Orlando costs £452 per person.

So in total, the cheapest way of doing things will cost everyone £562 per person.

My question to you ladies is:
If you had 2 years warning to save, would you go to your best friends'/close relative's wedding?

If yes, would you need more than 2 years warning?

    Thanks
    x

i think given enough warning and depending on how many we had to pay for (if children are allowed) id say yes,but given that the wedding is a few years off you need to be carefull with prices rising

It would depend on the person to be honest. If it was my brother/sister or a close or best friend then yes 100%

Big if I had 2 years notice, I could convince the H2b that we could have a holiday whilst there anyway so you arenht just going for one day and makes you want to save more!!

Initially we were goign to say yes to kids coming along, but if the prices are going to be a problem then people can decide if they want to bring their kids along or not but we have to be careful that the numbers don't go over 18 (otherwise we have to pay for a bigger wedding coz we're going for a package deal). I wouldn't mind if people made an actual holiday of it and stayed for longer! Make it a family holiday, attend our wedding and go home when they please!

Alrighty then! Even if it cost £1009 to stay for 5 nights, get a 5 day park pass and return flight?

We gave our family and friends just over 18 months warning for our wedding in Zante this July and were overwhelmed with the response we have had, so far we have over 50 people coming out and they are all treating it as a holiday so i think if you give people enough warning they would be fine with it. I would def go if it was a member of family or close friend and they gave me enough notice.

Brilliant! Thank you everyone for your responses :D I'm just hoping most people can make it, coz at the moment we only have 10 people on the guest list - our close family and 4 friends! It would look a bit of a sad affair if 1 friend and 1 family made it, or worse - not enough people so we might have to consider staying here and giving up my dream wedding (h2b is not bothered).

Two years is enough time to save that ammount. I would only go if it was a very close friend or immediate family.

We've been invited to a wedding next year in the caribbean, and aren't going becuse of the costs ... they're not really close friends, we only know one of them, and as a work colleague and we cannot justify the cost even for the holiday we'd have.

2 yrs is plenty of time.
it would depend on the person sibling/best friend yes! but if you think about it if the room based on your 4 sharing could be 2 adult and 2 child it would work out very expensive for the family! if i was going with my kids that 5 ppl! i'm not sure i would go...

and for 3 nights it is really expensive plus the flight is long and seems so far to travel for 72 hrs? xx

problem is you're quoting prices at todays rate, and not to put a dampner on it but you can't book that far in advance and the prices could well have quadrupalled and therefore more than people want to pay.

We haven't asked for anyone to come join us on our wedding, my parents have decided to come, but they are retired and have the funds to do so, but for everyone else we're holding a reception when we get home. Its a lot of money to expect people to pay for a short amount of time.

I paid £350 to go to my brothers wedding in Germany, but only because that is his home, and even then i thought that was a lot of money for 2 nights....

But then again i guess everyone is different.

that is a lot of money for 3 days as people have said. and prices do keep going up.

if it was for my sister or brother or a really close friend we would try our best to go but you have got to realise that some people really do not have money to save each month.
if we went we would prob make it at least a weeks holiday as i personally dont think it is worth going for 3 days.

when you get married abroad i think it is best to assume people wont go with you as people moan about the cost of attending a uk wedding let along abroad and then if people do come it is an added bonus

If it was someone I was close to then yes I would pay that amount but as other people have already said the prices will definately go up. I think two years is plenty of time. Why dont you have a talk to the people that you were thinking of inviting then you will have a better idea :0) xx

id go went to Canada for my sisters wedding and that was £650 each but that was for 10 days, have you looked at renting a villa off the Disneyland site might work out even cheaper and they can get day passes to the resort?

This was our plan but we only wanted best friends, parents and siblings and their children coming and all staying in a villa or two.
After talking to them my sister didnt think she would be able to afford to come as there was her, her husband and two children with todays economy she didnt think she would be able to save on time even with two years notice!
As for my furture farther in law...................well dont even get me started on that subject!!!!!!!!!! 9there is a thread on here somewhere tho lol)

Needless to say we decided in the end that having the must important ppl there on the day was more important then WHERE that day would be so we changed plans to stay here in england and then just us and our 3 kids to go for our 1st or 5th anniversery to renew our vows instead!

Given enough notice and depending on the ppl involved i say it can be done..........apart from the above everyone else were thrilled when we told them.

I did go to South Africa for my sisters wedding, flights alone were £800! But I did get a bit of a holiday too as we went for two weeks and the first week was all holiday stuff. But I wouldn't pay that for anyone else. (Best friend and siblings are all married now).

I would make it a holiday! Ours friends are getting married in Canada next year and we are going to go for a week and have a holiday there. The only reason we aren't going for longer is because we need the leave from work for our own wedding. The wedding in Canada next year is my H2B'S best friend and we wouldn't mss it for the world :)

I'd be inclined to just have a chat with the people concerned. Most people would probably make a holiday of it, so it becomes as much about if this is their "thing". The cost would not necessarily be an issue with two years to save, but if it wasn't somewhere I wanted to go, I'm afraid I wouldn't fork out that much to go there. That said, Disney is a holiday of a lifetime, so you should get a reasonable number of people happy to come. I know someone that got married there (don't know about the ins and outs I'm afraid) and the only negative they have come up with is that now their daughter will have pretty high expectations for her wedding as mummy was princess for a day for hers!!
