I would like a show of hands please. Who is wearing white and who is wearing ivory? The reason I ask is because I have had a hard time finding white dresses in the shops. The shops I've been to have only had 1 or 2 white dresses and loads of ivory and I don't understand why. The ladies in the shops tell me that no-one really wants white anymore and that it makes you look washed out and that some of the designers don't offer their dresses in white anyway. So am I in the minority by wanting white then? I tried the one and only white dress on whilst in the shop the other day and despite being quite pale, I don't feel it made me look washed out or in fact any different complexion wise to the ivory ones. People wear white all the time in everyday life, so this makes no sense to me at all. Is it just a fashion fad. I really want to wear white but I feel like everyone is trying to tell me I'm making the wrong choice, so is anyone else going with white or is it really a thing of the past?

Mine is called diamond white, it's not quite white and not quite ivory. The white dresses were too harsh against my skin and the ivory ones I tried I felt looked more like cream. I'm happy with my compromise! lol xx

I fell in love with an ivory/natural dress so I didnt have to make the choice, I would have worn it had it been in white though

My dress is ivory and I love the colour of it. I wasn't keen on white as felt slightly pale in it whereas in the ivory I felt quite tanned lol strange how two very similar colours can make you feel so different xxx

My dress is a pale ivory, and looked a lot more complimentary against my skin (very pale with pale freckles all over) than the whites did. I have a bit of redness in my skin over my chest and if I am flushed (which I was when trying on dresses in the heat of July lol) I thought the white made it show up more and yet when I tried on my ivory gown, it toned it down a bit. This might just be how I view it, others I have seen get married in white look stunning! Its just not for me :)

Thank you for your replies, so far it seems to be even stevens ;) which is reassuring because I know I definitely want white but with all the negative comments I keep hearing about it, most of my family and friends saying they prefer ivory and the fact that it seems to be harder to find anything in white these days, I was starting to get a bit worried that I was making a big mistake. Silly really because as I say when I tried them on I could not see any difference in complexion despite having both pale skin with redness in certain areas and especially when flushed.

Mine is ivory. I heard somewhere that white doesn't actually suit alot of people. I wouldn't know, as I haven't considered a white dress

    I wore ivory.

White is less popular as most brides feel they look washed out.

Mine is blush coloured (with a bit of an ivory overlay) - white really doesn't suit me and I couldn't find an Ivory dress that i loved, so blush it was! I did see quite a lot of white dresses when I was looking - but you're right, theres far more emphasis on the ivory coloured ones.

I wore ivory, I am a very pale myself and to be honest white dresses only made it worse for me! Made me look like a ghost... I think it depends on the shade of the dress :)

My dress is ivory, i went with the mind set of wanting white however i was open minded to trying both colours on. My dream dress just happened to be ivory. Like some of the ladies have said, although they're very similar colours it does make a difference with skin tones!

My advice - try on as many in each colour and you'll just know when its the right one :) xx

My dress was officially ivory, but it did look white. The white version of my dress was a much colder, bluey white whicy I didn't like.

My dress is light gold. As someone who intends to work in the wedding industry and savign to open my own bridal store I would say this.

Most store will carry the dresses in ivory and maybe the odd dress in white and maybe a coloured dress such as red or with black or purple accents. However most dresses can be ordered in white/diamond white/ivory. If you look at any of the well known designers such as maggie sotterro, justin alexander, mori lee, mon cheri etc they will give you the colour choice on the website. so once you find the colour that suits you and the style you can then find the perfect dress xx

Mine is diamond White which for me is a happy medium but the issue I now have is flowergirl dresses. Put them in white and my dress will look dirty put them in ivory and theirs will look dirty!

Need to find pale ivory dresses for them now

Thats one of the things that concerns me. The flower girl dress will probably be white too but also the table linen and the voiles which we will be draping at the many windows will be white, so I don't want my dress to look grubby in comparison.

Ivory, I was told by my dress shop that they and others they know of only get the samples in Ivory as White only suits a very small percentage.
