Some idiot pulled across us as we were coming off the motorway yesterday and now I have a really sore neck and back :-(
Spent last night at a+e and they said I've got whiplash (ligament damage) and I also had an "abnormal xray" - 1 dr thought my neck was fractured and the other said it was an old break - though I've never broken my neck!!! Soo I expect the 1st was right.
I am in sooooo much pain, really hope I don't take too long to heal :-( Only 2 months til my wedding now, and I was gonna have a crazy health kick over the next couple of weeks before my final dress fitting too :-(

He was driving like a complete nutter - wouldn't be surprised if he was drunk. Really hope the police do something about it and he doesn't get away with it. He has missed the junction, and decided to pull across the white box thing and infront of us at about 10 mph. I went into shock and everything as well, was horrible :-( He'd been driving like an idiot before then as well though.

I really feel for you. I used to think whiplash was a con until I had it. Three years later and I'm still having problems. It can take from a few days to six weeks to get better. Despite the pain make sure you keep moving it as if you don't you will give yourself more problems that you started with. Also keep a check on your posture as mine when really bad with my shoulder sticking half way up and it took a lot of physio to get it back to where it should be. Hope they have given you something decent for the pain. x x

No, they told me to take ibuprofen and muscle relaxers. I can't seem to untense my muscles at all though... which I'm pretty sure is adding to the pain! Yeh they told me to try and keep it moving.... easier said than done though, almost frozen into 1 position atm, h2b kept laughing at me cos I could literally only look straight ahead last night :-(

Aww thats not good, sending you some healing (((hugs))) to aid you well soon. I have had whiplash before too on 3 occasions and it definitely hurts really badly so make sure you take painkillers, keep moving the neck when you can and rest up. I would make and appointment with your dr for a weeks time so that if you are still not getting much relief by then he can refer you to a physio for further treatment to ensure things are better by your wedding.

As for the driver I really do hope he is caught and punished. xx

I take it you have some diclofenac? Try alternating between ice packs and heat bags. It should help to bring some of the swelling down. When trying to move your head do gentle movement. Try looking as far to the left then as far to the right and up and down. To begin with it will only move a couple of mm but over time keep doing it you will find that it will turn more and more. It will be painful to try but you have to keep trying or it will make it worse. I'm surprised that they didn't give you anything stronger for the pain if it is that bad. I was on codine at the time but it monged me out too much so they swapped it for tramadol. Tens machines work the best though if you know anyone that has one you can borrow for a while.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter how safe you drive you can't control all the other idiots on the road. Its just unlucky to have two accidents in the same family in such a short space of time. I hope you both start to feel better soon.

i deal with accidents like this as part of my job and also had whiplash my self best course of treatment is hot baths, ibuprofen, volterol gel or Diclofenac Sodium tablets from your GP. nothing else you can really do. Only other option is rehabilitation treatment, which your insurance may be able to provide. get well soon hun

Diazapan is great for relaxing the muscles and you need to get the pain down so you can start working on moving it. Don't try and grin and bear it as it makes it worse in the long term.

Bad luck. Forget about your exercise regime and just focus on getting better. You will still be walking down the aisle and your family will be there with you.

Do what you need to so as to manage the pain. Though be aware that Diazepam is a bit addictive - but you might just have to put up with that so that you get the pain relief you need. It will help to physically relax you and calm your nerves. It is like morphine, I think.

Kaya, I'm afraid to say that sometimes it does get worse before you get better. Basically, when something unexpected happens to your body, it's a natural reaction to tense up. As you relax a bit more, all your muscles and everythign else relaxes too, which creates more pain as your body has got used to holding itself in a certain position.
I was involved in an RTA 3 years ago and had to make a compensation claim to cover all the Osteopath costs I had built up as well as the prescription painkillers I had to take for the pain.
Maybe try something morpheine based - codydramol or cocodamol (think they're both available over the counter, but I know the latter certainly is). Also try alternating hot and cold compresses on the areas as this will help with the inflamation.
hope you're soon feeling better hun Hx
