We've found this beautiful venue which we both fell in love with - but the cost: £3,000, omg!
We both decided we wanted it, it's a gorgeous barn, with marque extra dinning space, and the farmer who owns it is very relaxed allowing us to do pretty mucha nything we want with it for decorations ect.......
It is so over our venue budget that we decided to move out planned wedding date from this Christmas to next Christmas, but are we being insane? should we compromise and rent a village hall instead?
We fell in love with the size, location, its proximity to the church, the freedom and idea of the venue..... but should we re-consider?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Jess xx

I know alot of people are sticking to a strict budget, but if you can comfortably afford to have the venue and it's exactly what you want, then you should go for it. I had certain things that I wanted/needed and we looked at over 20 venues and I looked at loads more online. I was really disappointed with the majority of the venue's we went to and then we went to look at Locko Park and I literally cried! It was so gorgeous but very expensive. We have decided to have our wedding ceremony there and then our wedding breakfast, at another location. I get to have everything that I wanted, because the other location is in a marquee and it is exactly what I wanted. Are you getting married there? If you are £3000 is very good. Have you looked at their menu's? What do they charge per person? This is where the cost could really rocket.

Sounds like you love the venue if its £3000 just to hire the venue thats expensive in my eyes but all depends on your budget, If its including food bargin :) Whats the place called?x

If this is just to hire then this sounds way expensive, the costs could spiral with decorating and catering, is this including furniture???
But if your determined you could easily trim your budget elsewhere!!! :D

If you both really love it then putting the wedding back is not a big deal as there will be plenty of things to occupy you in planning the details, the time will fly by. But I agree with the other girls, if that is just for hire then that is very expensive, but at the same time it is up to you what you spend your money on. We saw a place like that in Cambridgeshire but we decided to save money and have it more intimate and have a garden tea party, as we just want to get married. We cancelled twice before so now just want to do it and be married. But it is all what YOU want, so talk with h2b and go with what makes you both happy. xx

Agree with the above: if that is literally just the venue hire, and does not include furniture, lighting, staff, etc then costs could quickly rocket. I personally would draw up a spreadsheet (use autosum and it'll instantly update the total cost for you) and input everything into this. You need to include venue hire, the cost for the ceremony and the registrars fees, costs for extras for the venue if they aren't included (so, that might be chairs, tables, linen, lighting, etc), cost of decorations (will you have to spend more decorating this due to size/decor? Our venue doesn't need any decorating so it's saving us a fortune), catering costs, etc.

If you can definitely afford it, then I would go for it and postpone. My OH and I got engaged in Feb, and while in an ideal world we would love to have married next summer, it isn't an ideal world, and I'm still studying, and haven't started saving yet, so the earliest we can marry is 2014, and that's with my parents paying; if we were paying, it'd probably be 2015..!

I had this very same dilemma hun and the girls on here helped me loads. We fell in love with the most beautiful venue and were dead set on booking it. The venue alone was costing £15K (or something huge like that) but we convinced ourselves we could afford it. We tried looking at different venues but always compared them to the first one. Neil's parents gave us some cash for the wedding and seeing the money in our hands made us realise we could do so much more with our money. We've found the most amazing venue that offers the best service and is less than half the cost of the first venue.

I think you should go for it if you can truly afford it and it won't cause you grief - you don't want to pay deposits then find out 6 months down the line you can't afford it and have to cancel everything. It'll cause you too much stress. If you're going to struggle in the least then I'd have to say look elsewhere. Hope you manage to sort something out hun. x

If it is just for the room hire then I would shop around as we managed to get a country house for 4k and that includes venue flowers, three course dinner for 60, buffet for 60, two glasses of wine with dinner, toast, reception drinks, tea, coffee and chocolates, room for the night, toast master and room hire.

wow thankyou everyone. Yes it is very expensive, and it is only the hire and bare tables and chairs, we have looked at other venues but are seriously restricted as we want it to be close to our Church, and the other venues around us are all - to be totallt honest - ugly as sin :( OR really expensive at £15,000 - althought the expensive ones did include food and wine and were allready deorated.
With everyones advice (I'm showing this page to my man now) we have decided to go for it, we fell i love with the nakedness of it and have the comig January sales to save money on the christmas lights and decorations we want for it... plus the freedom the barn gives us means we cna bring in our own alchol - saving us a fortune as my man's Italian grandad makes his own wine ;) and we have mamanged to find a local caterer who will serve a hog roast and the trimmings for ver cheap. The expensive venue means we will have to cut costs else where, but he loves it and is a bit too proud to compromise, lol
    THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

You could probably save a fortune in food and alcohol so the £3K may well be a great price. xxx

You will save a fortune, since you are allowed to provide your own alcohol and catering. Can you tell us where it is, so we can have a nosey?

Ooh sounds wonderful, could you do a deal with them, saying that you love the venue but can't quite stretch to the full cost? I'm sure they could work out something with you rather than lose business

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

hmmm worth a shot, I'm hesitant becuase the barn is advertised through another company, the Squire was very laid back saying he didn't deal with any of it, as this third party did it all - with a 10% extra cost for us :(

    OOO thats beautiful hunni

We dicided early on that we were prepared to spent a little more on 3 things (photos rings and venue) early on in our planning and the rest we would cut back on. Im lucky in the fact that a friend is making the cake for free (lowest qoute was 250) and my sisters are paying for my dress and the bridesmaids dresses.
If you find something you love, i say go for it and cutback elsewhere!

im glad you got a venue you love, my reception venue is super (in photo album) and i cant think of anywhere better. And the price was great (£2500) for the decorations (ie flowers on table, scatter crystals, red carpet, mirror and candles), 4 course(2 choice) meal for 60, buffet for 80, 3 drinks per person package, canapees, and honeymoon room at night.

If you really love the place (and can afford it) my advice is always to go for it.

see if you could get any freebies?, or discount. I got £100 worth of food from their (a £30 voucher, then a free meal for 5 - must have been about £70 for the three course meal we had) i also won my cake from a competition they were having so saved £250 their, and i got a £150 discount towards our wedding.

Hi I think it is lovely and would suit a medieaval wedding very well. As you say you can compromise on the catering and drinks to afford the venue and I think the hog roast would go down really well!
