Hi everyone, I'm after some suggestions, we were originally planning on having a registry office wedding but have now changed to having the ceremony at our village church which will allow us to have a much later wedding rather than the 12.30 slot offered by the registry office. To keep costs down for the reception we are trying to think of a alternative to the traditional wedding breakfast. Initially we were going to have 50 to the registry office and breakfast then an evening reception for 170 with a buffet but now that we are going for the church ceremony we would like to invite more to the service but with the costs of food for a wedding breakfast being quite large we are abit stumped. We are getting married in July 2012 so hopefully the weather will be kind to us. Any suggestions will be gratefully received. Many thanks Kerry & Nick xx

Hog Roast!!!!

What about a buffet? You could have a selection of a few main courses, like a big pot of chicken curry and rice, or a chicken and broccoli bake and mash. Those are just ideas but something you can make in bulk would be cheaper. Hope this helps

we're having a buffet for ours. service is at 2pm, but we leaving reception for about 9-9.30ish as we have an early flight to new york the next morning so our time slot fitted in with our time scale. if u wanted more than just a buffet, then have a buffet and hog roast. or there's always a bbq! lol xx

definitely consider the hog roast i really wanted one but my venue wont allow for it.. if your venue want to use thier caterers you can hire equipment and ask them to work with it to best suit you.. :)
How about a BBQ? A friend of mine had one and her wedding was in August and then had an ice cream van come after. The other alternative is fish and chips? x

A friend of mine recently went to a wedding where they were invited to the ceremony and the evening do but not the wedding breakfast. I think on the invite it had something like you're welcome to join us at the church for the ceremony, then the evening reception at where ever it was and the time. I have heard of alot more people doing it like that and being that its during the summer, hopefully it will be a nice day and they can go for a pub lunch or something!

Buffet or BBQ, definitely. We're buffet style food for both our wedding breakfast and evening reception. Much cheaper and then people can help themselves :)
Alternatively....our friends got married last year (ok they only had 25 guests for the ceremony but...) and we all went to the local pub after the ceremony, then onto Prezzos for the wedding breakfast. They paid for our main meal only, Drinks and desserts etc...people paid for themselves, must have saved them a small fortune!
Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

Our wedding breakfast is afternoon tea, so tea/coffee, sandwiches, cakes, scones with jam and cream. Didn't want anything too heavy since most people would prob be having lunch before coming to our ceremony at 2.30pm.
We then have a ploughmans buffet for the evening (starting at 6.30pm), with walkabouts of mini fish an chips, bangers and mash and ice cream cornets for the evening party (which are passed around up til about 9.45pm)

I think a hog roast works out quite cheap and can feed loads of people.
We are having mini fish and chips and bacon sanwiches at 9.00 I am looking forward to eating them

A friend of mine did afternoon tea and then invited more people to a small buffet at night. In the afternoon tea, everyone had the choice of tea or coffee and water (very important to not forget the water) and had a small selection of sandwiches and cakes that were brought from a well known wholesalers as the cakes are huuuuuuuuge and feed many and tasted gorgeous. For the evening, they put on a 5 item buffet and then made their own cupcakes and a small selection of deserts to go along with it. They also served the wedding cake in the evening to pan out the evening buffet. They opted for cheapish buffet foods e.g. saussage rolls, pizza, and some slightly more upmarket ones like some nice salt and pepper fish fillets and it was gorgeous.

A friend of mine recently got married and invited everyone to the wedding then, apart from distant family and wedding party (who all had a meal at her father's house), all were invited to the evening reception so she just had one cold buffet at about 8pm and most people had already eaten before they arrived so she didn't have to do much food at all!
WARNING:
I say the first thing I think of!

We had a BBQ for our wedding breakfast, went down an absolute treat, everyone loved it! And cost half the price of a 3 course sit down meal.
I am now Mrs Stacey Stiles and loving it!

U could always have a later ceremony and instead of having a wedding breakfast & evening reception it can be rolled into one so if u got married at 4 ish u would only have to provide food once for your guests.
