I was wondering if i should book the registrar before I book the venue? We was going to go and book the venue in a couple of weeks but do you think it would be better to do that second? :S

No, I'd say book your venue first in case your date isn't available x

Unless you have a specific registrar in mind, then maybe that doesn't matter - they usually have a few, not just one.

You would be safer booking venue first. . . its never a good idea to do registrar first as your venue will most likely be unavailable. XX

You preliminarily book the date with the venue! Then call registra office a book date, the cinfirm with the venue and pay your deposit! If you book a registra you have to pay deposit for the date a venue and if you change venue etc have to rebook and pay deposit again!

    Hi,
This was a tricky one for us as well and took a bit to finally get the date! We went to the village hall first and asked what dates were taken in May 2014 (as we knew we wanted a May wedding) then when we knew what was available we called the registrar straight away to see if they had any of the free dates our venue had and booked them both on the same day to avoid disappointment.

    Hope you get sorted x

I really want to get married in a particular registrar office, it looks like a castle, it's amazing for photos etc ... and it it literally 5 mins away from the hotel I want so, will be disappointing if i book either amd cant get the other :(

I would be surprised if you booked now that both wouldnt be available but I guess it happens! We booked our venue (didnt pay deposit straight away) and they advised they will hold our date for 2 weeks while we sort registrar, after that they wouldnt hold it without deposit BUT they would always contact us first is someone else enquired about the date. I then rang and provisionally booked registrar, which as it is so far ahead was available, and paid a reservation fee. Then went back to venue and paid deposit. It isnt advisable to book registrar first incase your venue isnt free and there will always be a couple.of options for timings with registrar if needs be.

From our experience, we were constantly told to book venue first because as has been said you then have a preliminary booking with a registrar and once you have given notice all is then confirmed officially including time etc.

Venue, Venue, Venue! Its all good and well having a registrar but youre stuffed if you have no venue. It is a tricky thing though. I had to call our venue and say what dates did they have in Sept, then ring the registrar to ask the same, figure out when both were free, ring and book the venue then go back to the registrar and book them!

Definately venue first - there's more chance of this being booked on your day than the is the regiistrar as most venues will only do one wedding a day, whilst there's about eight slots for the registrar.

Most venues will hold your date for a couple of weeks whilst you arrange the registrar, and in the unlikely event that you cant get the date, you can then move your venue date before finalising and paying the venue deposit xx

Remember also the registrar you use is the one in the district of the venue, not where you live (if its different). If you booked a registrar first only to find your venue is booked, you may then need to get a completely different registrar if you find an alternative venue in a different district, and end up paying double the fees!

Can I just say not everywhere do you have to pay to book the registrar.. Ours was booked 28 months in advance and that's set in stone as long as we give notice after 4th July 2014 and before 4th Sept 2014.. We don't have to pay a penny until giving notice..

I'd do as someone said (as we did too) provisionally book your venue, book the registrar and then book your venue with deposit.. You have time on your side booking wise with registrar, you may have to be a little earlier or later than you intended though ceremony wise xxx

we provisionally booked our venue first and then booked the church and then paid the deposit on the venue afterwards. most places will let you reserve a date for so many days without deposit. most places can also be quite accommodating in moving your date in the early stages just in case you cant get the other one booked x

    Hi there,

Check with the registrar that there is availability on the date you want the venue, then if there is ring and book the venue and the registrar on the same day, I've done mine already for sept 2015, I would do this sooner rather than later as when I saw the registrar back in may in lincolnshire she said she was already getting lots of bookings for Summer 2015. Dependant on your county you may have to pay a fee to make an advance booking for the registrar as you can't give your notice of intent just yet.
