    Hi everyone,

I got engaged to my wonderful fella in may his year(2013) we're looking to get married in 2015 hopefully (finance permitting!). I wondered if anyone had any tips for doing a wedding on a budget that doesn't include a lot of DIY? Would love to be able to DIY but work commitments on both of our sides make it difficult.

We're looking to try and find a venue where we can do everything i.e. ceremony, meal then reception? Anyone know of anywhere good in the Bedfordshire area?

    Thanks,

    Liz :) x

    Hi hunny,
Welcome and congrats! e are getting married on 3rd may 2015, we found a venue that we are having ceremony meal and reception in, saves alot of hassle! Most places do alot of deals on these types of weddings, for instance if we were to get married any date left in 2013 or 2014 midweek we could of had the whole wedding for 2500!!!! thats including 60 guests for ceremony and reception feeding them all a hot buffet , disco and 3 drinks each! but as we have gone for a weekend in 2014 the venue inself in costing us £2500 plus everything else on top, so its well worth looking around and getting a midweek wedding! xxxx

You do have time on your side to do DIY stuff...

Anyway, most venues like hotels will do packages and stuff for a variety of budgets. Things to bear in mind, the number of guest wiull be limited and additional guests 9especially day) wilk hike up the price quick. Midweek and out of season weddings will cost much less than weekend(in particular saturday) weddings in the summer. Maybe look for a venue that you can hire for very little or free (think of family/friends that may be members of a sports club, masons etc) and hire in catering. Or a backyard wedding if you have the space... marquee and then hire in catering.

Consider asking friends and family to help with DIY projects such as stationery, wedding favours, artificial/real flowers, cake etc.

I recomend a Midweek it more than often more than halfs the costs for the venue, catering, cars and photographer to name a few, plu DIY invites etc are a good way to go!

Think out of the box for wedding venues - a lot of pubs now cater for wedding receptions, and are absolutely lovely inside, plus are likely to be cheaper for catering etc.

The inn of holidays offer wedding packages starting from a grand - I know it doesn't sound like the most romantic venue, but we went to one near Doncaster which was gorgeous - every but as nice as a more expensive hotel.

If you go on your local council website, it should give you a list of everywhere which holds a marriage licence - this is a good starting point regardless of budget.

What budget are you looking at? Our ceromony, three course meal, drinks package, canapés, evening food, disco and band for 50 for the day and 130 on the night came in at under 4.5k.

One of the ways we saved was by having a much smaller day do - and there are some lovely venues that cater for smaller wedding parties. Xx
