I only ask as I'm a little unsure on what to do - just ask for money (but doesn't that sound rude) or ask for vouchers of some kind (but doesn't that sound impersonal) any ideas, thoughts, suggestions please!!
CommentAuthor~*~ Becca ~*~
We're not putting anything into our invites tbh!!!
If people want to get us a gift or give us money, great!!! if not, not the end of the world..we chose to get married and chose to invite them...all i ask is that they can make it :d

Actually that sounds really reasonable, I do just want all my friends to participate and enjoy themselves.

we have a wedding gift list, purely because I want people to not have to spend hours looking for a gift if they wish to buy us one. The list is there to help them choose a gift but it doesnt say they have to buy us a gift. I know my family would rather buy something we want/need rather then they choose something and it gets put in a cupboard for years! I also did a list to stop the same gifts being bought more than once.
CommentAuthorToops
Kesha, did you choose a store eg John Lewis for your wedding list or did you do something else - I'm in a similar situation that I believe some of my friends will want to buy us something.
You can get holiday vouchers these days - we done this for my niece and she had enough for a fab 2 week all inc honeymoon! :0)
CommentAuthorsbride
We are asking for money towards the honeymoon. I think most people would rather give money then worry about what gifts to buy. We are gonna put a poem in our invites.
I am now Mrs Stacey Stiles and loving it!
CommentAuthorToops
MrsM, Actually a friend mentioned holiday vouchers, do you get these from the internet or travel agent?
CommentAuthorkendy
as we both have our own home's we dont need anything so we'r having a wishing well card box, giving our guests silver envelopes, asking them not to write anything on the outside, put a donation inside as much or little as they like and post it in the well, then donating it to when you wish upon a star as they helped my 2 ill sons xxx
CommentAuthorsbride
thats is lovely minime, a really kind thought x

We are just asking for honeymoon money, and we have a little poem to ask politely. I think it is all about the wording, if it sounds polite then no-one will be offended x x x
CommentAuthorStevie_Dee
Heres a poem from a lady who sells these cash gift cards on ebay, I dont know if you are interested but they may be nice to incorporate into your wedding invites.
We really hope you can join us, on our special day You'll make our memories complete in every single way We do not have a gift list, and we know you'll understand Our house and contents are complete with pots and plates and pans But should you really want to give and celebrate this way A gift of money would be lovely for a rainy day
I think this is a polite way of asking. We are using this poem but changing the "a rainy day" to "our holiday". xxx
I have a gorgeous husband!

Hey my wedding is on the 10th june, I went to debenhams and created a list with them, then anyone who asked me for a list i sent it with their invites asking them not to buy from debenhams as its too expensive but gives them an idea...seems to have worked for us as everyone is buying from debenhams lol xxx
CommentAuthorEriksfjord
We've got a debenhams list where people can buy something or put money on a gift card. We did this as people said it would be easier for them as they can do it on line and it will be delivered to us!
CommentAuthorSuffolkSteph
Quick question then.... Were getting married away on our own.... If people want to buy us a present then we would love them to put towards the Honeymoon... do you think though that as we are not inviting anyone to a wedding then they wont want to buy us a present....?
I am not expecting presents as we are going away but I know that some memebers of out familys will want to get us a gift...
I was thinking about sending a card to everyone with our wedding date on so they can think of us on our special day... but now I write it it sounds well naff.......
I'm a bit confussed now....
CommentAuthorMrs fairytale

We're creating our wedding list at House of Fraser tomorrow. Can't wait to be let loose with the little scanner!
CommentAuthorRoxii
We're not having a gift list, or asking for money or honeymoon wouchers. We're simply leaving it for people to make their own minds up as to whether they even want to buy us a gift. I see it as.. If I was sent a gift list to a wedding that I'd feel like I HAD to buy a gift, even if I didn't really have the money.. But If I didn't get a gift list I wouldn't feel like it was nessessary if I couldn't afford it. So i'm hoping that by not sending one if people are struggling then they do not feel that they have to get us something. Because I would hate that!!

Roxii I thoroughly agree, don't want people to feel they have to get a present, as mentioned before I'll just be happy to have everyone to party with me :-))))
CommentAuthorMrs Sazra
The only reason we're having a list is that we've both lived alone for 10 years and have everything practical for the house. So this is our treat list. We will be making sure there are lots of differently priced things on there though.
CommentAuthorToops
Yes I wouldn't mind that actually a treat list as we to have all the practical stuff. SNAP Sazra - just had a quick peek at your photos and we have similar engagement rings - great minds :-)

No wedding lists for us..I don't like them..think it is cheeky specifying what you want..UNLESS you and your hubby are a new home owners/ co-habiters.
My guests are travelling long distances and staying in accomodation (at their expense) for our wedding..so we are telling NO pressies!
CommentAuthorfuturemrsstockwin
we are just asking for people to put in to a honey pot then that will help pay for the honeymoon. i think its best to ask people just to give them a guide so you dont end up with tons of toasters lol x
CommentAuthorToops
Yes that is true, don't want loads of toasters :-) True CeCe, it does seem rather cheeky!

I'm thinking we're having a charity gift list, most likely with Cancer Research, as we have both had people in our family affected by the disease and we have all the stuff we need for a house as we live together so yeah, we are just asking the guests to make a donation on our behalf ^_^
