I seen in the news that someone had got married abroad and the person marrying them was insulting them in the foreign language but smiling and talking to them (they obviously didn't have a clue what he was saying) he was calling them allsorts! Just goes to show what can happen...

I saw the one about the people who got married in the Maldives... where they called them infidels and pigs and all kinds of awful names... basically reading rubbish from a book!

Shocking to think anyone would do that!

Im sorry, i dont understand the big deal about the dominican republic one.
I can understand that it is harsh and upsetting that they didnt get exactly what they planned, but surely for one thats a reason most of us are playing very major parts in our wedding planning? So that we know it is done how we want it?
Surely if you pay someone over seas to do it all for you, you are expecting to take a bit of a risk?
That couple had a 2 week holiday in the dominican republic, they got legally married (admittedly in a small room but its the vows that count isnt it?) and they had a celebration for their friends and family?
Me and h2b are doing the legal bit in a small room the day before our big celebration and blessing too.
And they got a lovely 2 week holiday and £3000 refunded. I fail to see what they had to be utterly devestated about?
I know obviously thomas cook cant be allowed to get away with it and its not on etc.... but maybe its just me thinking can they not be happy with a 2 week holiday, being married and having a celebration for family and friends....however the legalities were sorted in the end?

It as totally reinforced my h2bs feelings about doing it all ourselves and staying in the uk though.

Well if it were me, I would be devastated, as were the couple on the programme. All of us on here are hoping and praying for a perfect day, which includes our families being there (in most cases), a lovely dress, a meaningful ceremony and a day of celebration. They had none of that. Fair enough, they got compenasted with £3k, but how is that compensation for what should have been one of the happiest days of their lives? They can't buy it back. Thomas Cook were completely at fault and should have advised them that their wedding wasn't booked. So, in my opinion, I think it was a big deal.

I dont know if maybe due to how i was raised and my childhood i learnt not to take things for granted, i know that things can and do go wrong and often expect it till it has gone right if you get what i mean, so i generally dont leave things to other people to do, i am always calling and checking myself. I watched this with h2b and he was saying the same as me, that he could understand the upset...im not in anyway saying they shouldnt be upset and shouldnt be compensated....its just that i am of the feeling that i would still be happy for the holiday and the celebration. H2B said he would have called to chack the bookings himself as he is like me and doesnt generally trust random people with such huge responsability in such a big deal.
I feel for the couple i really do, but for their own peace of mind i think they should have concentrated on happy memories.

*DISCLAIMER this is just my humble opinion and i am not posting to cause offense to anyone and apologise if my opinions have done so.
