My venue won't offer us a tasting session!! :(

They say if we want to sample the food beforehand we have to go into the restaurant part of the venue as normal and pay for a full three course meal (without taking the costs off the day!)- the fact that we're preparing to splash out on 100+ guests in a wedding breakfast plus canapes and drinks seems to have escaped them.

I'm reluctant to commit to picking a menu choice and paying out for so much food without tasting it first...is this normal?...I thought menu tasting was standard at wedding venues? :(

I definitely wouldn't put any money down without tasting it. In my opinion that is really weird not to let you have a tasting session!!! Try and see if you can't talk someone into it - with the amount of money that you're prepared to spend there it seems insane that they're not being more helpful! Xx

Yes we had tastings for 2 caterers no obligation to place any orders! Then again we had a bespoke menu so you couldn't order it usualy - definitely ask again and explain if you're not happy with the food it could make/break your choice of venue!

this seems a little strange to me! i went to a resturant and they offered me a tasting without obligation to order with them, id tell them that it seems extreamly unfair and if that how they treat you when your planning to pay so much that might take your bussiness elsewhere as even the carvary near me offered us one although we are there every week! hope you can sort it hun and keep us informed! dont pay a depoist or anything untill youve tried again!! xx

Ours don't do tasteing sessions either and if we want to taste anything we would need to book a table in their restaurant!
Unfortantly I know alot of hotels that don't offer this as part of the wedding package!

What we have decided to do to taste ours is to book in for our anniversery, try the restaurant, use their spa and try out one of there rooms......bit of extra money spent i know but we would be spending the money on another hotel anyway so why not our venue?

How annoying. They should let everybody try before they buy!

Good luck with it anyways :) x

That seems rather off - esp as your having so many people! I thought it was standard... They should at least let you know at the start Xx

Every venue should allow you to taste the food before you make a decision to what you want for all of your guests on your big day,
especially when you are paying them a hugh sum.

I think thats out of order. We are only having 30 for a meal but they are letting us taste the menu anyway, and I am vegetarian so they have agreed that I can have my own special meal (i am the only veggie!).

unfortunately a lot of places now are the same. Almost everywhere we visited now charge. We have to pay to eat in the main restaraunt if we want to double check our decision. I think we get a whopping big massive 10% off wow wee (sense the sarcasm) and yes we were annoyed but as I said, unfort alot of venues are doing the same now. Its a case of get em for everything we can as they just hav £££ when they see an engaged couple.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo

cos we are regulars to our venue were not bothering but id ask again and tell them you may cancel it (might scare them a bit!) it does seem weird though that they wont do it especially for a wedding though.....

if you sign a contract and pay your deposit then infort you cant cancel. We had to pay 25% which was quite a lot and we lose every penny if we pull out so you may have the same type of contract

have you seen the food menu for the wedding? why not go for a meal there and pick it out. it may cost you and i can understand you not actually wanting to do that but if the venue isnt prepared to give you the testing its what i would do!! :)

We get a tasting but our venue now charge for it for new bookings - i dont think many of the places we looked at offered them
It is annoying as its something else you end up paying for!

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!
