Had enough looking on internet at venues. H2B input was having the reception at the Sand (of) Castle in Blackpool. Errrr. No. The other suggestion was abroad. No, as my grandparents and some of our closets friends wouldn't be there, and to me that's very important. Though he still keeps bringing it up. Grrrrrrr To explain a little, H2B wanted to get married on a beach as he loves kitesurfing and beaches in general. Looked into it and you can't in England. He isn't really bothered about the fussy-ness of weddings but this was the one thing he really wanted. Gutted he can't do it. Looked around at Scotland and nothing that I can find on internet looks good enough, as we want the venue there too. Found a stunning place in Devon (we live in Blackpool) but it is far too expensive for the venue hire let alone food and dressing it on top of that. There are lots of bice places close to home, nice country resorts, and country hotels, but he hates the thought of it. Been looking at the Lakes as it's not too far away, and again he was meh, and the lack of pricing on the website makes me think it's a fortune. Does anyone have any ideas about beach side hotels, something a bit different, places in Scotland (as you can marry anywhere)? Heeeelllllpppppp

I know there's a gorgeous venue on Loch Lomond that I've seen a few weddings in magazines have been at??
CommentAuthorHalebob85
Sorry forgot to say Scottish Borders. That's the other thing, he wants to look around, but we have people coming from Cornwall, Hampshire and Berkshire, so I don't really want them to be travelling forever, and there's cost of our guests staying somewhere. We have a big circle of friends and they don't have much money, so I can't really expect them to fork out a fortune to stay somewhere for 2 nights.

Ahhh.... yeah cuz that Loch Lomond one is gorgeous but it seems to be sort of book the place for the weekend type idea... There's a castle near us (we're in southwest Scotland) called Caerlaverock, which you can get married at - it would be outdoors, it's a ruin but v pretty and dramatic - and it's on the coast? You'd need to find a hotel nearby though for the reception...
CommentAuthorHalebob85
HAHA. Omg. That's so weird. Our friends got married at Caerlaverock 2 years ago. It was gorgeous and then we went to Mathrown of Mabie for the reception BBQ. Obv we can't go there as well. And we would get the worst weather Scotland has to offer prob :D Their's was Oct and glorious sunshine.

We got married at Gretna Green through the Gretna Wedding Bureau. Have a look at their site - I think they do castles as well as venues right in Gretna - and their south west Scotland, only a few miles across the border so not too far.

Oh boo! Thought I was on to something there!

theres a place in newquay cornwall right on the beach and people get married there can put link on your wall, but you will have to unrestrict it, or look up lusty glaze beech, newquay

You certainly can get married on a beach in England! I know plenty of people who have. I'll try and get hold of them to find out where they got married and I'll let you know. Do you have a preference of rocky vs sandy beach?
CommentAuthorSamanthaP4
Did a quick google search and came up with the beach hut weddings in Bournemouth. It's a relatively new thing, but its wonderfully cheap and looks beautiful.

Gah sorry for post spam. Keep finding new things! Search for Unique Home Stays and look under the cermonies tab. LOADS of options for you.

Samantha - Really? Sandy beaches. Jakesmummy - Tunnels is the place that I saw and was £5000 just to hire the place. The food is about £2000 extra. There's a place near us. Lets call it Ribby (of) Hall and that is £6000 with everything included, linen, chair covers, bows, meal, eve buffet, staionary, car, accomodation, drinks package, canapes and dj. For 70 in day and 120 in eve. Can't really justify going all that way for not a lot really. Madison - Will have a look at that. I am actually from Cornwall, but my family don't live there anymore.

Samantha - I've seen the bornemouth one, its the beach hut that is licensed as its a permenant structure. Tbh. I can't really be bothered to travel miles. Though cornwall is miles away, as I said above, I'm from there so we have extended family who we can visit and we usually go down every couple of years anyway. Will have a look at that. Thank you :D
Was thinking about it last night and it's getting me down. Was so excited to see the Ribby on Sun. All last week I was excited, then when it actually came to it I wasn't. I couldn't figure out why, but now I think about it. I was walking around it thinking this is lovely, I love it, but at the same time, thinking that h2b will hate it, so what's the point in getting excited about it??? He won't come and look at the places with my mum and his mum. grrrrrr He thinks we have all the time in the world. But I'm going away in Sept till next July and then next sept I go into my final year at uni, which is so important that I want to have the big things sorted so I don't have wedding stress while I'm finishing my degree. He thinks you can just ring up and somewhere will be free.

Went to see place called the Pickerings today. Love it. It;s a really nice place with beautiful gardens, but the people are really warm and friendly. The place feels really warm and welcoming. Not worked out the price yet, so going to do that now. H2B is lacking enthusiasm as usual. Didn't come and look at it. Showed him some pics I took for my mum and again. Meh. He's doing my head in at the mo. His mum loved it as well. Gonna loose my patience with him soon.

CommentAuthorHalebob85
He has tried a search of beach places, like I said the one we both loved the look of is far too expensive. Will get him to do another search 2moro when I'm at work. Will chack that one out thanks :)

does the one you both love do cheaper deals during the week i know some down here have lower rates during weekdays and out of season.
CommentAuthorHalebob85
Yeah it's £4500 on a weekday and again that is just to hire the place, no food or decoration or entertainment. It's too far away as well really.

Could you compromise and get married in a registry office then have a blessing on the beach then the reception elsewhere? The registry office bit could just be for formalities and even the day before?
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!
CommentAuthormadison_uk
god thats loads, good luck finding somewhere you both love
CommentAuthorHalebob85
Thanks for all the suggestions. We thought about it but we don't really like the registry offices round us. We're both agreed on it, a blessing isn't really for us
