So I've been thinking about growing my hair for the wedding, as I've seen a few styles that I like that are half-up/half-down, but I think I need some more length to pull it off. My hair is just below my shoulders, but I'm thinking of growing it another 5-6inches. But, I don't know when to start growing it out? I've got an appointment with my hairdresser at the weekend so I'm going to ask him what I should do to, but just wanted to know if anyone else is growing out their hair and how long it's taking? Also, did you continue to get it cut whilst you were growing it? My ends get really dry and start to split, so I can't really risk not getting it cut regularly otherwise it'll get into really bad condition.

It's been quite a long time since I've grown my hair out, so can't really remember how to go about it!

Also, I saw that my hairdressers does special occasion/wedding hair for around £60 which is the cheapest I've seen so far. It's a big chain, so I doubt they will come to me, but I don't mind popping over to have it done, but just wondered if anyone else is going to a salon to get their hair done before their wedding?

Thanks for your advice and help ladies!

    xx

i had my hair half up, half down and my hair was in between my shoulders and my bra strap if that helps you and it was more than long enough and i had it curled.

i also had someone come out to me to do my hair and make up and that was £ 150

Thanks Terri - your hair looks gorgeous! I'm going to have a chat with my hairdresser about what I have in mind and see what he suggests re length.

£150? God, I wish I could find someone who charged that! Stupid London - can only find people charging £200-£300! One was charging that just for hair...!! Crazy!

I'm growing mine too, It was a short pixie cut at christmas and am hoping to get it as long as possible.

Have you tried using a conditioning hair treatment once a week to try and prevent split ends. I would start to grow it asap then you can just maintain the length till the wedding, or just keep growing it to then.

I'm growing my hair to and so is my daughter you still need a regular trim to keep it healthily and help with the growth at the minute I'm just have the ends off and my side fridge cut in.

The alternative is hair pieces but your hairdresser will be the best person to advise you on both growing it and hair pieces :-)

i'm having my hair half and half - it currently sits just below my shoulder blades. When I started growing it, it was shoulder length and its taken me over a year to get it to the length it is! I had a hair trial a couple weeks ago, i put the pic in my hair album if you want to see what length it was curled? xxx

I did think about hair pieces, but I've been thinking about growing my hair out for a while anyway, so this is a good excuse to finally do it lol!

Good call on the conditioning treatment too - although knowing me I'd buy it and then forget to do it...! Not the best person when it comes to looking after my hair to be honest - I'm a 'tie it up in a scruffy knot' kinda girl lol.

your hair will grow on average of half an inch a month some peoples grow faster but you should get your dead ends off every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how fast it grows but using a conditioning treatment 1 a week will help it from getting dry and split as quick so you might b able to leave it longer between cuts ( witch will save money :) )and depending on how you r going to have it you may not need much more length on it hope i have helped you xxx :)

Sara - That clip is lovely and your hair looks fab!

I'm not planning on getting mine curled as I don't really like it curly, so probably will be having it either slightly wavy or straight. The style I saw that I really like was half up half down, but it was just with lots of pins. The girl's hair was about elbow length and it looked amazing. I'm not having a veil and not planning on having a brooch/clip or anything like that, so quite liked that it was really simple and didn't need anything else.

I have a routine at the moment, every sunday I have a proper soak in the bath and put my hair mask on, my nose strip and my chin strip then slather myself in moisturiser ( I forget to do it every day)

Hi if you are trying to grow your hair we always recommended to have it cut every 8-10 weeks normally people have hair cuts every 6 weeks to maintain a style and leaving it a few extra weeks should be fine just monitor the ends. Also it might be worth speaking to your hairdresser on the quiet to see if he/she can do your hair from home as a private job for the wedding most hairdressers do it privatly as well as in the salons so worth a try, nothing to loose and you might even find that he/she will do it a bit cheaper x

my hair used to be all the way down my back but i had it all chopped off when i left collage. regret it now cause i find it difficult to grow it back so im having extentions in. i have to get the the extentions myself but the bay of e do some good deals. ia s as i highlight my hair my hairdresser has said if i buy the nearest colour match she'll put the highlights in them wheile she's doing my own. its only costing me £140 for me, 5 bridesmaids, my mum and my nan x

Joey86, I have found an amazing lady to do my hair and makeup. She lives in Kent, doesn't charge for travel and it's only going to cost me £105 for both hair and makeup - for the trial AND for the day itself!!
If you want her details, please let me know x

I am also trying to grow my hair but it doesnt seem to be growing very quick! However everyones hair is different! All I would say is that if you have a regular hairdresser then you are probably best sticking with them to do your hair for the wedding! As they style and cut it they already know your hair type and will know straight away whether certain things will or wont work with it and most importantly whether or not your hair will hold the style all day! xxx

Thanks everyone for the advice! I haven't intentionally grown my hair since I was about 15, but it used to grow really quickly, so here's hoping it still does lol.

Re hairdresser, it's really annoying as I had this one girl cutting my hair for about 2-3 years and she was really lovely and I would have been really happy to ask her to do my hair for my wedding, but she's moved to another branch! I literally only found out the last time I went to get my hair cut so now I've got a different guy, who's great, but he was telling me that he's been moving around all different branches for the last couple of year's, so who knows how long he'll be here for...!

iluvcakes - please could you put the details on my wall?? Sounds like my kind of bargain!

I would say just start growing it now if its too long you can get it cut, whereas if its too short its harder and much more expensive to get extensions. As soon as we got engaged I started growing my hair and that was 2010 :=) xxx
