I found one saying the bride has to keep a piece of the cake to ensure her husband will be faithful to her, I guess thats where the you can't have your cake and eat it saying comes from lol

LIl Miss's friend said were she is from its bad luck if the bride gets wet with the rain and she has known them stay in church until it has stopped raining so no spots of rain touch the bride at all.

the flowers one about red and white isnt so much a superstition but its supposedly the colours of death. thats one my mum actually believes because she is a nurse in a hospice. I dont want 2 see mr clarke til the wedding on the day and im doin the old, new, borrowed and blue but nothing else.

Red roses are bad in weddings as they symbolise a colour of death? Hmm in Chinese weddings red is literally everywhere - especially red roses. So, if I have red roses, surely the good and bad luck cancel out?

Wedding Tradition of 1,000 Origami Cranes
Folding a crane takes time, patience, and understanding. These same qualities are vital for a marriage to last and thrive. This is why the symbology of 1,000 hand-folded cranes decorating a wedding is so powerful.
The ancient practice of a man and woman folding 1,000 cranes for their wedding is called sembazuru. The tradition itself is called Tsuru wa sennen. The time and energy put into the thousand hand-folded origami cranes symbolized the patience and trust necessary to sustain a happy marriage. A couple who could weather the long, time intensive folding process together, supporting each other, talking with each other for weeks while taking on a challenging task was proving their ability to maintain a long term, content relationship.
Color is critically important in any hand craft. Origami cranes for a wedding were selected for colors which held meaning to the couple. There might be bright pastels for a spring wedding, or rich autumn hues for a wedding held in the fall. The origami cranes could be perfectly tailored to match the theme.
Not only was the folding of the cranes a "proof positive" of the couple's compatibility, but the end result became a visible testament to their love and dependability. The wedding and reception areas would resound with the cranes and their symbolism. The cranes would be strung on garlands to hang along aisles or around doorways. The origami cranes would be used as place markers and as table favors. Crane circles formed centerpieces around flower arrangements or candles. Hanging cranes floated in windows.
Because you have a thousand cranes to work with, you can reach levels of artistic beauty found in few other decorating circles. You can group the cranes to form symbols important to the couple. Perhaps a moon, symbolizing the night you first met. An open circle represents the never-ending joys of life. A fish or cross can represent a Christian faith. The heart is a traditional symbol of love and loyalty.

We're having a really traditional Honeymoon... an old celtic/viking tradition states that the bride and groom should drink mead (honey wine) every night for one month (or Moon!) after the wedding to ensure fertility, prosperity and happiness in marriage.
I really like this one so we're keeping it, especially since we can't afford to go away on honeymoon

The red and white flowers are supposed to blood and bandages, the meaing isn't just death, it supposed to mean that there will be war in the marriage and it will end in blood (needing bandages) but I also heard that it has something to do with florence nightingale!!!
I know your supposed to shake the hand of a chimney sweep! but if ou wash your hand after then the good luck is washed away too!
Cant remember if its the bride or groom thatis supposed to have a sixpence in their shoe!
Never heard the widow one, bit worrying as I have my nan, my h2b's nan, my stepnan, one of my aunties!!! (men do not do well in m family - far to many headstrong women) Do widowers count?? Have a couple of them coming too!!!

yes we were advised to keep the red from the white due to blood and bandages so I am having predominantly white flowers by having white centerpieces but a red rose on everyones napkin to get my red in.

Hmm I have paper (kind of a white/ivory colour) roses.
The full outfit is easy to get around I wont be trying my dress on with my garter and tights, saving them for the wedding day.

I love reading superstitions - although I hardly ever go along with them but so interesting to find out why they came about. The something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue traditionally finishes with ' and a sixpence in her shoe' . The sixpence is traditionally given to the bride from her father to be hidden in her shoe so that she has some money of her own that no one knows of - and it's for her fare home should she need to escape back to her family lol

My mum has always told me, her nanna was furious the day my mum got married the first time because my mum didn't wear her veil over her face, and because she didn't wear it over her face as she walked in, she "invited the devil in" and the marriage would be unhappy and never last (which turned out to be spot on)... I'd love to know where these superstitions come from! Xx

The one about the cat sneezing in front of the bride the day before the wedding made me giggle, I have 2 cats and one is particuly sneezy, so much so I quite often get a face full of cat sneeze!

For me I tend to follow a mixture of traditional English and Chinese superstitions. So, for my wedding day the following will apply.
Bad luck to get married on a Saturday, so I'll be getting married on the Sunday. No wishing wells in sight! I'll be asking the venue to cover theirs so I don't see it. Despite loving spiders, I won't be letting them near my dress. I'll just make do with a faux spider. ;) No red wine so I don't risk spilling it on my dress, haha.
We have also carefully plotted out the dates. The 24th of July 2016 is significant.
24 being the Mister's lucky number, July being his birth year and 2016 being the year of the monkey which will be prosperous for us both.

I have Chinese heritage according to my Gandmother (Who sadly passed away last year.)
Plus, being of the beliefe system I am, it also fits in.
The Mister has always been athiest and sceptical, but ever since he's been with me I've got him into the signs and such. Haha. It was also his input for the dating of the ceremony.
