My other half wants our son to be his best man. However when we get married, he will only be 2.
I wanted my son to be walking up the aisle with me as a page boy, plus my son can't arrange a stag do and look after rings.

Has anyone else has their children as best men?

Hubby had his son as best man but he was a tad older. I had suggested he have him as he was the only one who never had a real role in the wedding. My girls and his daughter were bridesmaids and I said to him to have him as best man alongside hubby's brother to help him out with things.

My h2b is struggling to decide on best man, but his main choices are his dad, his brother and my oldest son. It's totally different though because he will be 16, so able to do things that are best man duties.

Maybe he doesn't feel he has any close male friends like my OH. He is my best friend and I am his. I have a social circle, but OH prefers to have time alone reading or gaming than meeting old friends that he barely has anything in common with. Funny, because he is so sociable in group situations, people love him instantly whereas I am painfully shy and find small talk with strangers incredibly difficult!

I guess if he doesn't have any particularly good friends, he may feel it would be less embarrassing having his son and keeping it cute, than asking someone he barely knows? I know someone who got married recently and had the entire company as guests, including maid of honor and no personal guests other than parents and one of her 4 brothers. Perhaps it would have been a bit less odd, if she had socialised with them out of work, but at the time, I found it very strange. Now I look back I think maybe some people just don't really need many friends and maybe those are the people most confident in themselves and less in need of reassurance?

I'd say 2 is much too young to be best man. You want your best man to be able to make a speech etc. x

I agree with lala, 2 is too young, it will be hard enough keeping him quiet /occupied in the ceremony. And best men are supposed to look after rings, organise stag, and give a speech which he won't be able to do. A page boy would be far more appropriate.
If none of his guys friend fell right, what about him having his father, or a brother if he has one?

Maybe he could act as a 2nd best man so he would still have the 'role' but he wouldn't actually be required to do anything. My OH is having 2 best men but even they are his brother and his dad. It doesn't have to be a close friend if he is struggling to think of anyone.

He can walk down the aisle with you as 'pageboy' but then maybe go and stand with his dad and sit with the other best man for the ceremony? :) xx

My husband's cousin had his two year old as best man. It was cute, but there was no speech and he was a but difficult on the day. It was extra work for the groom, who had no other best man or groomsman. It can work as long as you're not fussed about the speeches, and as long as you have other people to take on the other roles. However if you desperately want him to be a page boy then you need to make that clear. He could act as ring bearer which would be a combination of the two roles.

dont think a 2 year old as a best man is a great idea tbh, each to their own and all that, but i think it is a bit of a daft idea. I can understand a teenager at youngest.... but not a baby :/ if h2b sugested that to me, i think i would prefer he didnt have one at all that a kid, as tbqh, id tell him it was a stupid idea. let the children have children roles

2 is rather young to be a best man, page boy with a cushion and the rings might be better.

My oh said at the beginning he would have our ds as best man if he could I asked him why not if that's what he wanted and he said he's too young our ds will be a month short of 6 when we marry. I'm glad as I get to have him as page boy /ring bearer he will most likely stand next to his daddy and best man but he will also have a seat next to grandparents if he wants. We aren't putting any pressure on him on the day if he wants to walk down aisle he can or if he wants to stand with daddy then that's fine too.

I think 2 is too young to be a best man. I think he should be a page boy with you down the aisle,as he cant have any responsibilities anyway apart from maybe ring bearer with rings secured to a cushion maybe. Think hubby should have another think on this one unfortunately x

I agree with comments above. Have him as a page boy as he's only 2. There's no rule about having a best man :)

It's kind of cute.... but i guess it just depends on an individuals perspective...
What does your OH expect his best man to do - i guess if its just for the presence then why not... could be a cute gesture... the maid of honour could hold him or whatever creative option you could come up with..

However, if he is looking for someone to take responsibility, then he may want to choose someone else... lol..

i had a similar thing with my oh... he wanted to use his younger nephews to be groomsmen, but i felt this would look odd with my bridesmaids who are like nearly 30... But then at the end of the day.. its all just part of the day...

Im sure your husband is more concerned with just marrying you and starting your new life together....

It would look cute but I don't think it would work as well as the idea of having a 2year old. As a reality I could imagine him being noisy and wondering what to do and maybe even wandering off. If there was an adult groomsmen or adult 'best man #2' (also for traditional speech) to supervise then you could MAYBE pull it off. I would probably stick to page boy if there's no adult alternative.
