I have decided today will be the last time I decide to lose weight, it has to start now forever. I have 3.5 stone of excess weight on me and it's getting me down.
I have tried Slimming World in the past but stopped as I couldn't afford it in the end. I have had a look online today and saw that weight watchers is cheaper but the site doesn't work on our Mac as it uses Flash which Macs don't support. Typical. I want to follow something online as I don't like going to classes.
Should I fork out again for Slimming World? it's £80 for 3 months access (!) or just stick to good old fashioned calorie counting? I could just follow SW with the old books I have but I don't know if they are still relevant and the plan would still work.
I'm confused! what do you think ladies?
Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

Hmmm...I have done that once before about two years ago. I could do that again as I resent paying for being weighed each week too and also for books on eBay, the prices on there are terrible!
I'm still undecided, I just something to follow that I know works, and that isn't complicated. I don't want to have to sod about making seperate dinners for me and OH, or to worry about what to eat at weekends as we go out alot.

I wrote up a diet plan filled with fruit and veg, i calorie counted to have roughly 1500 a day, They say veg calories dnt count so i had alot of those with my dinner, i would have had an actual normal dinner one day as long as i followed my food plan then a w w dinner the following day. I drank alot of water and did 30 mins on the treadmill... I have to admit it does work but i got too comfy after i lost the weight and went back to my normal eating and put it on again. I know i can do it and i will do it again.. :) Hope it helps...

I lost my weight with Slimming World as have my 2 daughters so I would say it works for us. I need the support of other people to succeed..it's a bit like UKbride lol I know some people have the will power and dedication to go it alone but I know I would have given up on my own. One consultant said to someone once when they moaned about the costs involved ' Did you ever once complain about how much it has cost you to get fat?' She also told some women who only turned up, got weighed and left that she could no longer take their money and asked them to leave. She said this is a group support situation you can weigh yourself at home for free. LOL

me and H2B joined slimming world around 10 weeks ago and both of us have lost over a stone, however, I find it too restrictive for me. A few years ago I was doing Scottish Slimmers and lost nearly 3 stone. Unfortunately there isn't a class near me that suits me so i've decided to start following my old Scottish Slimmers way and I am loving it even more. Its more of a counting calories and is very similar to Weight Watchers. I'm still going to SW class with my other half as he likes that diet and finds the classes help him a lot. Good luck honey, you'll find a way that suits you best. xxx

Thanks all, I'm going to sit down this evening with the books and magazine and work out an eating plan for the week, and see how I get on. I also bought a Rosemary Conley DVD yesterday so will giving that a go too. I always do best if I exercise as well as eat well but I knocked that on the head earlier in the year when I broke my arm.
I will do it! x

any time i have dietd i have always cal counted, and it always worked. After having my kids i went up to 12 and a bit stone, over time and trials(deaths, my son in hospital etc) i managed to get down to 10 stone.I then met my H2B, and have put on all the weight as i stopped watching what i ate and was eating the same portions as him (about 3000 cal a day) and result was i was back up at 12 and a bit stone and size 16-18. I sai i would start losing weight after xmas to be nice for my wedding, but it wasnt till 5 weeks ago that i finally started. In the past 5 weeks, i have had 14 take aways- but cal counted throughout- so even on a take away day i only had 2000 max cals. and thanks to that i have lost 8lbs. I now only have 6 weeks to go till my dress fitting - and then i will not be able to lose any more as its zipped back. - and by then i really want to get back down to at least 10.13, but preferably 10.7. This means i still have a minimum of 9 lbs to lose. But am trying for 12lbs. I know i can do this it will just mean i strictly watch my weigh, and have no takeouts.
So my choice is cal counting.

Try the Zoe Harcombe diet, can buy the books online, amazon. Basically its a diet of how are parentsand grandparents used to eat, no processed foods, its all fresh and lots of vegetables. Its nothing to do with counting calories
Phase 1 is 5 days long and its a detox, gets everything out of the system. Can eat bacon and eggs for breakfast and veg and meat for lunch and dinner. There is no carbs or fruit allowed. You can only drink water and herbal tea.
Phase 2 then you can start bringing carbs into your diet but you are not allowed to eat fats (meats) and carbs together,, helps with digestion. You have to eat 3 meals a day.
I am a personal trainer and have never dieted before, after getting into bad habits a colleague told me about this and thought i'd give it a shot. I lost 5lbs, 2% body fat and my water hydration increase by 3% in 5 days. I found I was't hungry or craving anything. It does take a whilte to get into the habit of not eating carbs and meats together. I have recommended it to many clients who are reeping the benefits too.
