Hi, I'm 36 and preparing to marry for the second time, although it will be my lovely man's first time. I am really struggling to decide on the style of dress to choose, not wanting to look like mutton or making him feel like I'm not making the effort as I've done this before. Please help, any suggestions and guidance would be fantastic.

maybe a shorter 50's style gown would be great, to be honest a lot of ladies on the forum have got married for the second time and have gone for wedding gowns but not in the usual ivory or white, they have gone for more champagne colours so maybe consider that if you still want to get a full on wedding dress

This my 2nd and his first too and I will be 38 when we eventually walk now the isle!
I'm going for a full blown wedding dress properly in Ivory or champagne.

Try some on see what suits both in style and colour then go from there and remember just because your an older bride and your 2nd time doesnt mean you cant wear a white wedding dress go for what you fall in love with no matter what that is

Hello Nicola! I will be 36 as my name says when I get married in 2014 and although this is my first (and last) wedding I too am having the same thoughts.
For example I saw this gorgeous dress in John Lewis one day while walking past and I just had to go try it on. When I had it on I just had to take it right off again I thought I looked hideous. It wasn't a bridal gown but it was a long flowing pale gold dress. The shop assistants were all oh that's lovely but I knew it just wasn't. I thought the dress made me look a lot older than I am!

I'm beginning to think its harder for us to find a dress than it is for younger brides :-( I want to look my age and I just don't know how to! I need wedding fashion advice lol

:-) I think we have the added problem of trying to seem too young as well, were kind of stuck in an age limbo lol. I decided right after the incident to not bother until a few months before the wedding. Can't wear a suit either as we're not that age too and no offence to anyone.
Actually I must say its the opposite for me as I'm the first timer and he's a second timer, but his first wedding wasn't much of a wedding as in the ex didnt make an effort so at least I don't feel like I must live up to that :-) yeah I think we should def keep in touch :-) maybe we could be online shopping buddies ?

I think you should go and try some dresses on and choice what you like..... my mum got re-married a few years ago and said she didnt want a long dress as too 'weddinge' but ended up with full length lace dress from Msoon and she look gourgues and completly surprised herself. Also if you dont want a big poofy dress then plenty of shops stock more elegant dresses xxx

I was only 3 years younger than you when I got married and never even considered the 'mutton as lamb' thing! Personally, I don't think it matters about your age or whether it's your second time around, you should wear what you want to and feel comfortable in x

it's both our 2nd times too and I'm way older than you (am 50 now - will be 51 when we marry - he'll be 48 I think hehe)..

I definately do not want to look like mutton so I can understand where you're coming from. I've chosen a tea-length dress in ivory with lace overlay and likkle pearls... it's obviously a wedding dress, but not one that only young'uns can get away with .

as the other ladies said go try lots of styles on and, if you come away with a more traditional style frock and feel wonderful in it then that's the one to go for regardless of your age :)

hi nichola well im 31 but will be 32 when i marry, but we are going for the full works this time as my 1st wedding was quite small and dictated by mum and dad. (i got married at 27) This is my h2bs 1st wedding so weve decided to go all out on this one and i dont think of "mutton dressed as lamb" age has nothing to do with it. this time i am going for a traditional white dress big church etc. No matter what your age you should wear what you want, there is a lady on here older than you and she had a lovely bridal dress i think it was champagne if i remeber rightly.

We got married August last year - and it was just over five months before my 40th birthday. I didn't give a thought to my age when I went wedding dress shopping. Even though we had a small wedding as well, I still went for quite a big dress and the only reason I didn't have the full train as well is that we got married at a small venue and it wouldn't have suited.

The only thing I didn't want was a strapless dress because personally I don't like them - but I don't think age really matters when you're getting married. After all, it's your day and you are the bride so wear what you want.

I got married 5 weeks ago, I was 40 in May, and I went all out and wore a proper full on dress. I wanted it totally different to my first marriage and it was by far!!

I'll be 33 when we get married-my first & his second. I would have been happy to have a small, simple weddding but as his first wedding wasn't a big affair he wants more of an occasion tbis time. I thought about a tea length dress but ultimately now it looks like i'm going for full on tulle skirt! I think you shluld just go & try on a selection of dreses & go with what makes you feel amazing.

I think you should get whatever dress you like! It's your wedding and it doesn't matter that it's second time round as long as on the day you are happy with what you're wearing :) x

This is my second time too and my h3b 1st and i had the same feelings.
Like you i didnt want him to think i wasnt makig as much of an effort.
I went to a bridal shop and just kept an open mind. I have ended up with a beautiful 50's style dress. So much more 'me'than the first as back then i just wanted to look like a bride.
Just make sure you enjoy looking for your dress and when you try it on, you will know when you have found the right one xx

This will be my 3rd time and H2B's first time, however this is the most exciting time by far for me. I'll be 43 when I get married, H2B will be 48 the day after. I think trying dresses on is the only way you'll be able to decide. I've ended up going with an elegant champagne colour dress, it has a very small train, it is satin with a chiffon overlay and has straps but I'm getting floaty sleeves added to it as I want to hide my bingo wings!!! I found strapless dresses really unflattering and 'too big' for what I was looking for. I hadn't given colour a thought but found that the champagne type colours suited my complection much more than white or ivory

4th April 2014 - I get married to my soul mate
