Hi all, whether anyone else has had problems with registrars. We were due to be married at a venue on the 6th of June and with just two witnesses (not what we had planned but we still wanted to get married). The restrictions on weddings had been lifted at that point but we received an email from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead registrars saying that they wouldnt do this after all so they cancellled. They will only offer to rearrange and not refund but we have cancelled the venue and are getting married in our local village church. They are quoting "force majeure" terms and conditions on their contract and we have been through their complaints procedure and local government but they will not refund our £611.00

You are 100% entitled to a full refund.
We had a similar situation with our wedding venue, I battled and sent emails quoting consumer law.
I highly recommend speaking to a lady called Nina from occasion queens wedding planning if you need more details. They are unable to offer what you booked so your contract is in frustration, therefore your contract terms are VOID and they can't quote them. google: which consumer law wedding refunds. good luck

So sorry to hear about your story. I'm so tired of people getting ripped off. They should do the decent thing and just refund you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your plight, but yes, you should be entitled to a full refund. After all, they're the ones who cancelled on you, not the other way around! Lizzi's advice from above is very sound.

If you're looking to avoid such problems in the future, have you considered using a celebrant? You'll get a far more unique and individual ceremony for a price that may not be much higher in price (in fact, most celebrants start at around £595), as well as a copy of the tailored script and flexibility to do whatever you like with the ceremony.

Let me know if you need more information going forward. I might know a guy... ;)
