    Hi all -

Can your reception venue really refuse to not let you use outside caterers?
We want a hog roast for night time buffet and we've found a great company that do it for £700 (200 people).
Our reception venue do a hog roast the same for £4.200 (200 people)

    How can they justify that?
    Any advice?

You need to ask them but many venues don't allow you! If they have their own catering x

If it is in the contract that you cant take your own food then thats it i think hun! think its something to do with health and safety and if they're not covered for outside caterers they just cant agree to it! also they're not going to make the money if they let a cheaper caterer come in. Speak to them though and see what they say xx

Apparently they can't cater for their needs so it has to be an outside company. Its annoyed me!! lol. The fact that they say this so that they can charge what the hell they like is so out of order!

surely if they cant cater for other people why should you have to pay full price? I would sit down with the venue and say to them you think its highly unfair and is there anything you can do, I mean i will prob pay their prices because its where me and martin wenton our first date, so its so important to us, but if i could get my caterers at my venue i would be so happy! xx

There are not many venues that will let u do that :( its a total rip off. To me its not so much about the price of it, its the fact that we are being taken the mick out of and blatently being ripped off.

ziggyboo is right im afraid in most cases. However, my venue said they can use someone they know for hog roasts so we could still have one the next day for the family but it had to be one of their trysted suppliers so you can ask them about their suppliers. We decided now to have the hog roast the next day... we are feeding people enough x

That price is extortionate - We are having a hog roast in our venue and ours is only 1200 for 120 people - and our venue is not otherwise cheap
Over £20 pounds a head for a hog roast is awful

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

Are you sure they have given the right quote? although in hindsight 21 isnt too bad as I am paying £16ish for a normal buffet? I am not sure. I dont know how to help on this one but the prices are so far apart that you defo need to double check this one and fight to get the cost down if the cheaper cost is genuine x

You can discuss with your venue but it may be that their caterers have been approved for health and safety, risk assurance etc and it includes other things like room hire, table linens, staff etc which is why they're approved - if you can hint that the difference is so vast you may consider switching venues they may be able to negotiate on price or possibly inform your other caterer how they can get the approved stamp so you can use them!
