Hi all. I’m new :-) and I’m really just after your thoughts on weddings in the pandemic!? Does anyone else have an October wedding booked? Are you nervous about it going ahead? I’m honestly freaking out. We have a 100 guest wedding booked for Friday 30th October and I’m really worried due to social distancing that I’ll be asked to limit guests... this just will not be doable for us and we’ll have to postpone. Anyone else is the same predicament? I think I’m going to cry!! X

We are getting married the 24th October and are in a similar position. We've got 80 guests to the day and upto 150 in the evening. I dont know where we stand on postponing as if the venue is open (regardless of limitations) would thay make it harder to change date as that would be our choice not their fault. We know if they cant open then we can change the date for free, but it's hard not knowing. It's hard to imagine what the rules and regulations might be.

I’m due to get married 8th October this year and it’s become so stressful not knowing whether to go ahead with the original date or postpone. My partner and I are talking to our venue about potentially postponing until next October as there’s too much uncertainty at the moment. We’ve also got around 100 guests for the day and can’t imagine having to practically ‘uninvite’ guests :(
Depending on government guidelines, I’m also apprehensive about whether staff at the venue would enforce the 2m distancing rule on the day.
We have a feeling that, unfortunately, a wedding this October won’t be what we’ve always imagined for our big day.

Just a quick note to say that if your wedding can't go ahead as you had planned it ie. limited to 30 guests rather than the 80 you had planned for then I would advise reading your contract. It's likely your venue contains guest number on there, As that CANT go ahead, the venue has to agree that they are unable to host the event that you had planned and wanted, therefore your contract is in frustration and you are entitled to postpone or worst case get a rufund.

    Hi all,

I understand that most of you here are concerned/worried/upset about your upcoming weddings. There's a lot of uncertainty at the moment, and right now we're at the mercy of the government guidelines.

I'd like to give you some advice that I gave to a friend of mine: think about what is more important to you – is it the date you had planned to get married, or is it having everyone there to share in your special day? If your heart is set on the date, then I would recommend going ahead with a limited number of guests; if, however, you want to make sure all your friends and family can enjoy your big day, I would try to postpone until next year.

Obviously, the way in which you do the latter will depend on the venue: as Lizzi said above, you need to have a look at your contract with the venue, because if you've agreed on a number of people and they won't be able to fulfil their end of the bargain (because of COVID), then you are well within your rights to request a postponement free-of-charge.

Whatever and however you sort it all, I wish you all the best in doing so! And by the way, if your postponements lead to loss of registrars or celebrants for any reason, I am a young and fresh celebrant based in Yorkshire but available to travel all over the UK, and it would be an honour to be a part of your special days. Just get in touch if you want to know more. :)

    Have a great day!

Our wedding is end of November and honestly its the not knowing that is driving me up the wall. I have spoken to our venue who have politely requested that we give it some time as they deal with people who have weddings due sooner which Is understandable. If my wedding was now I would absolutely want to move it with the 30 people rule etc. But its not knowing if that number will grow by September? Will we still have to distance? Can my elderly Grandparents attend.

Then when I talk to people about possibly postponing everyone talks about well it could get worse by then and we are going to have a second wave. I wish I could see a few months into the future!

We are planned to get married on the 10th October with 100 guests.. I’m unsure what to do! It’s taking all the fun out of it now!! I think we potentially may
Postpone.. as I can’t see mucH changing, but also trying to be positive that it will! Feel for you all it’s awful!!! Dx

We postponed from 29th May to the 29th October, hopefully things will have eased up a little more by then and we only have a total of 32 people. The main issue is whether or not we would be able to have our reception as this was supposed to be on a boat so distancing is likely to be an issue. If we can't the whole theme is out of the window

Really hoping we don't have to postpone again but if we do, then we do. I waited 10 years for a proposal, what's another year.........

I’m due to get married on the 10th October and we are remaining positive.
The uncertainty is causing stress but we are really trying to not think about it. The current hospitality guidelines contradict themselves in regards to weddings so I’m pretty sure that they have to make changes in guidance.
