I tried to make an appointment today for my h2b to give notice in his area - he lives in Broxtowe in Nottingham. He's a trucker, so I'd discovered on the website that the Beeston Registrar can make an appointment to come to our library to take Notification etc. I was immediately told that the Beeston office is being closed so that was impossible. I then asked if anywhere could do Saturdays and was told that our area office in Basford (which is miles away!) couldn't make any appointments for any day as they have no idea how many staff they have or when they will be available!!
I am gobsmacked. When I told her we're hoping to get married in December in my area office (Ilkeston) she said they would try to make the appointment but couldn't promise and that she'll ring me in a few days.
So anyone hoping to get married from Broxtowe or anywhere else that falls under Basford can go whistle for the time being!!!

I can't blame the office - Nottingham Council is making so many cuts nobody knows where they are. I want to say the woman was rude, but to be honest she was more brisk than rude. Probably seriously stressed.

Now I have no idea when we'll be able to set the date for. We're considering him moving in here soon so that he can give notice at my office, but that's not really going to work financially due to commitments he already has. I'm so disappointed :0(

I thought it's only 15 days, but she said she can't make any appointment for the rest of the year until they get further information about staff and funding and we were hoping to get married on 10th or 17th Dev. Looks like it will be January or February now unless something gets sorted :0(
It won't just be me being affected though - there must be 10's if not hundreds of us going to be needing the use. Surely there must be a legal obligation to provide the service elsewhere temporarily if they can't do it?

Thats terrible, I'd phone the next nearest office and speak to somebody there, I agree with you that you must have a legal right to the service, hope you get something sorted!

This is a bit naughty ... but he could change the address on his driving license (free) to yours, wait until 7 days has passed and then go to your office saying that he lives with you. If he then uses his passport as proof of identity he can use his driving license as proof of address ... and then change the address on his driving license back xx
