Is anyone else not having a father of the bride speech? We just have the Grooms speech and the best mans speech.
I only met my real father 4 years ago (long story) and I don't get on with my dad so much so that we haven't seen or spoken to each other for over 10 years. I asked my Mum if she would like to do it but she just got this awful look on her face and says she really doesn't want too. Which is fine as I know its a lot of pressure.
I'm feeling a bit sad that there's not going to be anyone on my side making a speech on the day and there isn't anyone else i feel i could ask.
Sometimes I think i'm just being a bit selfish and wanting someone to say nice things about me lol but then other times it just really upsets me that there's no-one in my life who wants to.

I completely understand, although I knew my dad we didn't talk for a number of years and I was about to leave home by the time my step-dad came on the scene so don't know if either would do a speech. Its a shame your Mum isn't comfortable giving one but it can't be helped I guess - you could always give a speech yourself or perhaps a BM.

Or do a speech yourself. I have been to a wedding where just the bride and groom did a speech.

    Hiya,

I don't have anyone on my side giving a speech either and only my mum and MOH will be sat on the top table with me and the rest will be my partners family. I was bothered at first and I am the same as I asked my mum and I got the dreaded look too lol! But now im not too bothered. I just told my partner he better say lots of nice things about me in his speech hahaha!! Xxx

I'm not having my father give a speech, he doesn't really know me well enough to say anything about me, and he only really has nice things to say about my sister so we are doing away with it!

I doubt my dad will do a speech. He isn't the type. I need to discuss with H2B but I think I would like to say a few words for my dad and just to say thank you to everyone. My dad isn't a public speaker. He's bad enough one on one, he hates silences! x

if you have an uncle or a grandad that you are close to maybe you could ask them to take on this role. they might feel really honoured x

My dad isn't invited to the wedding so I won't be having a FOB speech. My stepbrother is walking me down the aisle but he doesn't feel comfortable doing one and my mum, sister and maid of honour have told me they wouldn't feel comfortable doing one either. I was a bit upset at first but have realised my h2b will include lots of lovely things about me and our relationship within his speech and that's all I need.
We also have four best men and I believe h2b has asked one of them to include some bits about me within his part of the speech. Do you know the best man well enough that he can include lots of nice anecdotes about both of you, rather than just the groom? :)

Maybe you could have a look at the guestlist on your side and see if there's anyone who you think would make a good speaker. It doesn't have to be a family member or god-parent, it could just be a really good friend. It doesn't have to be anyone in the bridal party either; maybe there are female friends who you felt were a bit old to be in the bridal party. Or do you have an aunty who might do it? You could even turn it into a guest activity, encourage people to write down a couple of sentences, maybe an anecdote, or some advice if they are married, and then maybe the best man or groom could read them out.

my real dad doesn't know me well enough to give a speech. my step-father is walking me down the aisle but isn't the sort to make speeches. He hasn't actually said no yet, just keeps mentioning he doesn't do well with speeches! H2B has said he will give a speech and is happy for my mum or one of my BM's to make one instead x

I'm not having a father speech either. I've refused to invite mine. The only times he has been in my life was when my mum made him when I was younger. He can't even spell my name! Although I discovered about 10 years ago he has other kids and I tracked them down, I will have them at my wedding.

I would have had my uncle as he grew me up as his own but he died when I was 12. My grandad is too fragile to fly over for my wedding. So my brother (who is 1 year older than me) is walking me down the aisle. My mum is doing my speech (she offered).

Have you thought about your mum writing a speech and having someone else read it out?

I'm not having a FoB speech either, my dad hates public speaking, he even avoids the phone if he can help it.. I'm not even sure if I can get him to dance with me on the night and I haven't dared asking about giving me away, just in case he refuses that as well..
