I got chatting to the little sister of a friend today and I'm so bloody wound up after it!
She's just got engaged so we were chatting about weddings. I said we were having a late ceremony so not having a sit down meal (just to save costs as we have 100 for ceremony so would have been 6000+ for sit down).
She turned round and said 'but everyone's going to starve! who'd want to go to a wedding where there's no food!?' and I was like, there's canapes and the food in the evening so no one's going to go hungry! And she went off on a rant about saving money by starving our guests and how she's having a 4 course sit down meal, buffet and then chips at 1am.

Usually I wouldn't mind, I don't care for people grandstanding but she is 18, never had a job and her mum and dad are paying for the entire thing! How dare she go at me for trying to save money on my wedding when she isn't even paying for her own! Stupid, naive little tw*t living in her stupid bubble!

People like that annoy me to, they have no clue and a silver spoon sticking out of their mouth. You don't need to have a sit down meal at your wedding, it's personal choice. I'm sure you will enjoy your wedding more knowing you have worked hard to pay for it, I know I will with mine. Just ignore her she sounds like a brat x x

Ahhh how annoying! How dare she comment on your wedding like that. Ignore her, you do your wedding your way. If you don't want a sit down meal, you don't have to have one.

The greatest thing you'll ever learn
is just to love and be loved in return

Grrrr I hate people like that too, I wish I wasn't having sit down - but h2b insisted, i just hate to see the amount of food thrown in the bin at the end cos no matter how nice it never pleases everyone, (and half the women don't eat it cos they've squeezed into a dress lol).
Like Amy said you will enjoy yours all the more because you've worked your bum off for it :-)

Ignore her hun, it's your wedding and if you need to cut costs not having a sit down meal is a good way to do it. Our meal is included in our (mega cheap) package but if it wasn't we wouldn't be having one x

She's 18, and with the odd exception, most 18-year old girls won't have had the life experience to understand the true value of money.

    Ignore her. She knows nothing.

MargaretH85, i moved out at 18 and brought my first house so your generalisation doesnt apply to everyone, thank you !

I would say she sounds very immature to me, however i dont discuss our wedding plans with anyone as people cant help themselves but have an opinion so just ignore her honey xxx

Millz your definitely one of the few exceptions to the rule! I know that I was one of the few when I was 18 and unfortunately 18year olds with a real value for money is an increasingly rare thing! I know that 99% of my friends didn't (and some still don't) have the foggiest!

Tigerlilli there's no pleasing some people and you know all the effort you've put in your wedding thinking of all the little aspects and making sure everyone will have a good time, so just give her something shiny to look at her, because she's clearly still an immature child. You have a great day and don't listen to people like her

T*at! I don't think I could have bitten my tongue with that one! We are having a sit down meal but everyone will have the same meals and he evening buffet is rolls and bacon/sausage and I'm only adding extra 50 even tho 70 extra night guests have been invited as I don't want waste, and its too expensive to buy more! I'm hoping my sweet cart will help them pig out a little haha

How rude! What's it got to do with her. You're feeding your guests later and if you're having a late ceremony you'd be rushing to fit a sit down meal into the day with everything else. I went to a late wedding last year and by the time the meal was out, the speeches done, cake cut, first dance done they put the buffet out and nobody touched it for hours because it was too soon after eating. I think I had a few sandwiches later that had gone crusty from sitting there. Surely your guests aren't going to starve themselves all day so they'll be more than happy come buffet time. I wish we'd left our ceremony until later to save money.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

Thanks ladies. (And Lala, I was very tempted!)
I bumped into her and her mum last night and mentioned to her mum that the venue she was looking at was an average of 15k for 100 guests. She very promptly got told 'Do you think we're made of money! That's more than your entire budget' So she flounced off in a strop.
I pity the guy she's marrying!
And I know our guests will be fine, ceremony is at 4 so they will have all had lunch. Canapes after the ceremony and then evening food at 8 so should work out nicely.
