Well done!! Can the sugar roses be made in advance to take the pressure off nearer the time?
If only life could be one long tea break
CommentAuthorKirky
Yep I'll be able to do the roses in advance, although I have booked a day off work just to make and decorate the cake which should be plenty of time. I'm just trying to find somewhere cheaper to buy the sugarpaste from. The 100g of burgundy sugerpaste used to decorate this cake cost me £3.95.
CommentAuthorOWB
My local market has a cake decorating stall, might be worth checking if yours does, they're usually cheaper than supermarkets.
If only life could be one long tea break
CommentAuthorKirky
My local market was the first place I checked, I'd much prefer buying it in person than ordering online, just to make sure that the colour was right, but there's only a small section on one of the stalls and they don't seem to do it.
CommentAuthorOWB
Hmm, sometimes you have to resort to online as it's just not available locally!!

Your cake is fantastic, great job! : )
CommentAuthorKirky
Thank you, I was really happy with the way it looked. Not that I got to look at it long, it was all eaten in a matter of hours.
CommentAuthormadhen
That looks amazing, I would so love a piece! Was it sponge underneath?
CommentAuthorKirky
This one was a raspberry and white chocolate sponge with white chocolate butter cream. On the real cake that will be the middle tier, with lemon for the top tier and double chocolate bottom tier.
CommentAuthorFuture Mrs Doublé

Oh. Yum.
CommentAuthorKate4
Fab! Clever you!
I am making sugar buttons to go on the cake my dad is making. I went to a cake shop and looked at the colours to see which I wanted then ordered a 100g pack from the bay (£1) to do a practice. Then nearer the time i'll get a bigger pack as the seller sells 100g, 200g, 500g ,1kg etc.

CommentAuthorKirky
Thank you. Now my next task is figuring out how I'm going to tier it.
There will be 3 tiers. I've bought some pillars, which would be the easier transport option; as the cake could be transported unassembled. But I will be delivering the cake the day before and it will need to be moved from where it will be kept over night to were it will go on the day. Which would mean that the staff at the venue will need to stack it.
The second option is to stack the tiers directly on top of each other. This will mean that the cake will have to be assembled prior to transport, and I have no idea how to transport an assembled cake.
Any advise or ideas welcome.
CommentAuthormadhen
Hmm, for transportation purposes option one looks best, but I personally like them stacked directly on top of each other, just prefer the way it looks! Has it far to travel if it goes assembled? Could it be managed with slow driving and someone with safe hands?
CommentAuthorKirky
It has about an hour and a half car journey, and I would be with it to try and keep it stablised, but my Dad will be driving and he doesn't do slow and steady. I agree with you madhen, I prefer the way cakes stacked on top of each other look, and this was my first idea but what if it falls over or collaspes?
CommentAuthormadhen
Bluuuurghh....that's a difficult one for sure :( Could you threaten him with pain if he doesn't drive slow...?!?!
CommentAuthorKirky
Probably not. I'm going to ring my caterers tomorrow as they may be the best people to ask for advice on this one. My sister and h2b think that pillars are the bet option.
CommentAuthormadhen
Is there definitely no way it could be assembled on the day without the pillars? Good thinking asking them anyway - they're used to that sort of problem!
CommentAuthorTara p mrs gibson2b
well done !!! it looks lovely xx
soon 2 b mrs gibson !!!!!
CommentAuthorKirky
If the cake was stacked then i would cascade (sp) the roses all the way down the side which would mean they would need to be put on the cake after it was assembled and I would def need to do these myself. I just don't have time to go do this the morning of the wedding.
CommentAuthormadhen
Fair point. Maybe see what the caterers say and if you have to go with pillars fair enough - it'll still look gorgeous :)
CommentAuthorKirky
I spoke to caterer today and they are going to stack it on the pillars for me, which is a great weight off my mind.
