Booked a new venue and they emailed me a sample menu. But I need help in deciding on 2 things. I am not going to have an evening buffet.

    1) Should I add a bit of roughage like spuds? -To fill them up
    2) Should I have afters or just wedding cake? - Does the menu need a choice for sweets

    Getting excited now :-D

Grilled Half Lobster with Lemon and Dill Butter
Creamy Wild Mushroom Soup with White Truffle Shavings, Crusty Bread
Fresh Grilled Asparagus and Poached Egg, Hollandaise Sauce
Three Game Pate with Crusty Ciabatta, Homemade Compote
    ~
Prosciutto Wrapped Guinea Fowl Breast, with Spring Green Risotto Primavera
Locally Reared, 28 Day Hung Ribeye Steak and Dauphinoise Potatoes, Green Beans and Port Jus
Grilled Sea Bass Fillet and Roasted Squash, Mange Tout, Tomato Coulis
Vegetable Tart-Tatin with Grilled Halloumi Cheese, Creamy Pistachio Sauce

    Wedding Cake

If they will let you serve wedding cake as dessert I would go with that but you will need a bigger cake to ensure you have enough for a dessert sized portion rather than a 'finger' of wedding cake.
You could always have a dessert and serve the wedding cake later as a snack!

    Thanks ryhope!

Maybe I might have to have a desert and as no evening buffet use it as the snack!

The menu seems a little bit posh and not "big" enough if you know what I mean.

if not eating until late then perhaps have a desert and save the wedding cake as a snack to keep people going later on during the dancing and let ppl who are just coming to the evening do have some then too

sabayon is gorgeous, its a French type dessert, its egg yolk, champagne sugar, cream (all cooked) and served really chilled served with exotic Fruit kebabs, I don't know what is burned (Brûlée) if it is the fruits or sabayon I would say the sabayon, like creme Brûlée is just like a flan with brown demerara sugar that you burn. That would defo be my choice

starter I'd go with Wild boar pate with ciabatta, as wild boar is my favorite meat (daddy was a game Hunter), and ciabatta is a really soft and a little sour from olive oil bread. and mussels in white wine sauce is a winner in seafood and pan seared scallops sounds nice too. vegetarian option I'd go with the terrine with taragon and pesto. Main I'd go with Fillet of Beef with wild mushroom, as it is the best piece of the beef, and rump of ;amb with sweet potato sounds lovely, and swordfish with butternut squash yum yum, and veg option the millefeuille sounds yummy too.
Dessert I'd go with chocolate fondant or sabayon if it is still an option, and chocolate bread and butter pudding and cheese board.

    Hope this helps

thats great you're having a choice of food, I am not sure if I will. what I'd like instead of wedding breakfast set menu is a hot fork buffet, so it gives choice to guest on the day to pick several things they like, in style of a carvery

don't tell me about it. but we'll see if we book the one we really like so far they're very laidback and don't think it'd be a problem. if not I'll try to give a choice of 2 to my guests
