I love the idea of getting married abroad and saying our vows on the beach in the sun - I just would hate not having everyone I love there. But thats just me, I spend too long worrying about other people!!

Hi I'm getting married in Turkey 2014. We were looking at Cyprus originally but switched and made Turkey the final decision!

When will everyone start planing their weddings/how long in advance?

We've got the ceremony and reception booked. I'll be staying with my parents for the week running up to the wedding then were staying in the hotel were marrying at for our honeymoon after. It's the Elias Beach Hotel and we're getting married at the end of their pier. Not booked flights yet cos we're waiting for easy jet to release their flights but should be flying on 26 June!

I'm really itching to start planning more things but our planner says we need to leave it a few more months. Doesn't stop me coming up with ideas though!

My mum also kept going on about marrying abroad and we had been thinking about it at the sandals resorts but it was costing the same to marry abroad where we wanted to marrying here, and we would much rather have our family with us and then have a great honeymoon.

Me and my OH had dismissed the idea of doing it abroad as my sister HATES flying but after talking to her over the weekend she has said if i want to she would fly for me (so now looking into places and costs etc).

For you that are dong it abroad are you paying for your guests to go out there or are they oaying for themslefs what is the correct thing to do etc? This is my biggest worry of doing it abroad that gona cost the earth to take everyone out there etc x

We're not paying for people to get there, most people are going to use it as their holiday next year. You have to be prepared that some people might not be able to come so make sure you give as much notice as possible. We've given out an information sheet with our invites listing the different accomodation options and flight options. I don't think anyone would realistically expect the bride and groom to pay for them to travel to the wedding.

Our guests are paying for their holiday but we are paying for their wedding meals. We haven't decided as yet if we're going to pay to hire a coach to get everyone to and from the venue.

We've managed to save money by having it overseas. We've drastically cut our guest list and have been able to use the excuse of its overseas so don't have to invite every Tom dick and Harry. Our 5* reception venue is doing a 4 course meal with champagne toast, table wine and canapés for 40 euros a head. The most expensive thing has been the holiday itself which would have just been our honeymoon anyway. We are planning an after party back home afterwards but that will be a casual do so money saved there too. In all our budget for the lot is 7k which includes

    Wedding planner consultation
    Ceremony venue
    Decoratn of ceremony venue
    Legal paperwork administration
    Mayors fees
Transfers to town hall to complete paperwork
    Brides bouquet
    Bridesmaid posy
Buttonhole for groom, best man and father of bride
Wedding photography for ceremony and reception
    CD negatives
    Reception Venue
    Brides hair and make up
4 course reception meal, table wine & coffee for 25 guests
    Champagne toast and canapés
    Chair covers and table decoration
    Wedding cake
    Wedding dress
    Wedding rings
    Grooms outfit
    Bridesmaid dress & shoes
Best man outfit and shoes (x2)
Bridal accessories - veil, jewellery, garter, lingerie, shoes
    Bride & groom gifts
    Attendants gifts
    Flights for 3
1 week all inclusive 5* resort for 3
    Spending money
    Stag and hen dos
    Honeymoon clothes
Venue & catering for after party in UK for 100 guests
    Band hire for after party
    Invitations
    Thank you cards
    Postage
    Guest book

Think that's it! Our transport is my dads mitsubishi pick up so not paying for cars. I'm not sure how much the above would have been back home but I reckon it would be double just by the fact we would be expected to invite so many more people!

    Teganandrob 7k for all that?
Thats a good deal i think (not that actauly looked into it yet so dont really know prices etc)
Like KayleighW36 I would happily pay for their meals etc wouldnt expect them to pay and the transport to venue etc just wasnt sure if we would bge expected to pay for their flights etc.

Def going to be looking into it (not that have any idea where to go to do it as not really ever been abroad!)

Thanks for the advise ladies x

Mrs B, as with the other ladies on here I'm only paying for the wedding meals for everyone, and they can pay their holiday accomodation etc.

One problem I'm now having to deal with though is that we've decided to only have parents, bridesmaids and groomsmen out with us, and this doesn't include my siblings. My mum seemed shocked that I didn't want them there on the day! It's not that I don't want them there, but they each have children and by inviting them you're inviting the whole family, which adds to further costs!!! How has anyone else dealt with this issue? I feel obligated to invite them as they are my siblings but at the same time at present it's an all adult affair and that's kind of how we want to keep it! We decided on getting married abroad to escape this kind of pressure but it seems that even abroad you have these issues!

Well i must admit that is one of reasons we thought about getting away from inviting certain people i should (horrid to say i know)

With regards to ur siblins thats a hard one, im lucky my sister doesnt have any kids and i couldnt get married with out her and my SIL2B is not short of few bob so she wont think twice of paying for her daughter to go so thats me sorted but my OH has 2 kids from previous marrage so have to sort that out as well as time off school etc x
The more i think about it the more this country looking like it will be x

We just told people that the venue would only allow us 25 people for our budget so unless they were willing to pay for their own meal then very sorry but they couldn't come. If they really want to be there that badly then they will not be bothered by paying. I have two of my friends coming who are paying for their own food and drink because they fell outside of our 25 limit.

One ceremony here, one ceremony in Turkey, one for each family! We figure some of our close family we want there cannot travel, so it only seemed fair - plus there's the total contrast in cultures and the ceremonies themselves... One for him, one for me haha! Saying that, unfortunately due to our backgrounds our only option for the legal stuff will be a registry office, but that means we get to play with how our ceremonies will be, without the worry of all the official bits getting in the way.

i woke up in the middle of the night panicking about how to get the dress out there?! im terrified if it is in a suitcase in the hold it would get lost (just my luck) & the travel company (thom..)we are going with say they do not have the facilites to store a wedding dress/suit in the cabin during the flight! I have quite a large dress (pics in album) so i am now panicking!!

I bought a special box for it (via the bay) and it was perfect! I took it on as hand luggage and they even put it in the cockpit with the Captain both ways! I had a full dress and there was still plenty of space for me to get my shoes and undies in there going out and very fragile crystal glasses in there as well on the way back! You'll be fine. Don't panic.

They are made so they fit within hand luggage guidelines and usually come with acid free tissue paper so you can store your dress in it after the wedding.
