I may be wrong but i'm sure i've heard somewhere that you can go into some of the big department stores & have a make-up trial.
If so I was thinking of doing this before my wedding & then trying to re-create it myself for the big day, has any1 ever done this or know any1 who has done it?? Wot was the outcome???

My sister wents into Debenhams to one of the counters and had her make up done. Was really good and the staff were brilliant with her. She got all the stuff and did it herself ont he day day. I'm useless with make up and hardly wear it so am getting someone to come to do it on the day and a trial before hand for £30.

yep me!!! i went to the big d's e.lauder counter as their foundation is awesome. had my first meeting with them where she gave me some trial colours to take home and pencild my appointments for next year, there charging me £10 for my trial and then will cost £5 on the day.... one of my bm is a red head and is particular about her make up and knows what suits her and loves number 7 so when to the big Bts. there doing her make up for free as well as her trial (but said that usually people do then buy make up from them which suits me as can be a thank you from us and something they can use in future). our venue is about 2mins from the hairdressers and another 2 mins to the big D & Bts so its easy for us do on the day just pop over to them. both shops were so helpful and friendly and i trust their make up more than that of a local make up artist (personal opinion from past experiences) xx

My mum had done this for the trial for my brothers wedding a few weeks ago and she only had to buy 2 products which were used on her and which she still uses today to create the look.. My mum was so happy that on the day of the wedding she went back to the same girl and had her make up done, she also wanted false eyelashes they charged her for these and the rest was free.. She was stunnning xxx

It is worth a try even a few times to see what the desired look is that you want on your big day xxx

I had an appointment in J Lewis to have my make up trial done and my Mum put me off by saying you don't know who those brushes have been used on so I cancelled it lol and asked advice instead.

sweetchilli there brushes will all be cleaned in the same way as a make up artist, where possible they use disposable bits and bobs for example mascara applicators, sponges etc xx

I had my make up done in Debenhams once for my birthday. Just be selective over which one you choose. They are kinda free if you see them doing your makeup for free as you pay for the products you take away with you at the end. Usually costs about £30.

I liked what they did but I had an allergic reaction to the foundation so I wish I didn't look like a puffer fish the next day lol! x

I had been thinking about this as its a real expense that i could probably do without. My only problem is one BM doesnt wear make up at all and the other wears too much on her eyes and goes overboard with the blusher. So I think it might be easier to get a makeup artist in to do our make up on the day.

I got my makeup done for a formal dinner that I had to go to. It was free as long as I bought two products, no biggy because I wanted lipstick and mascara to reapply that night anyway. However, I had a reaction to the eye makeup that they used and spent the entire night with tears running down my face! I would definietely go for a trial first.

Clinique and Clarins counters are really good for this, the girls are always really helpful and very used to offering tips on bridal makeup x

I had mine done by the girls at the Nars counter and then bought the products I wanted. It wasn’t for my wedding just for a big night out. They ask you what sort of look you want to go for and talk you through all the products and how to apply them. If you are planning to do this for your wedding and then on the day do it yourself then it’s a great way to save money. I would be cautious about going on the morning of your wedding to have it done as you cannot always guarantee that you will like the final result.

i agree with lows you cant just turn up and trust your like it on the day (as with a normal make up artist) defo gotta have trials before and even show pictures if youve seen a look that you like x
