Just out of curiosity I was just wondering out of everyone who has/ is having an engagement party how much was/ is your budget for it? - It's just so I can get a rough idea on if I'm over spending on things... Thank-you in advance ladies. XX

I didn't have an engagement party as such, coz my h2b proposed whilst we were on a big family holiday in Florida, so we just had a celebration, cake ect whilst we were there!
I spose it depends where you want to have your engagement as to how expensive it will be. I have only been to 1, and they had a party at their parents home for about 30 people. so just did BBQ/buffet so I'm sure it didn't cost that much maybe £300-£400!
I would not spend more than £500, coz I wouldwant to save it all for the wedding but that's just me, everyone's different! Remember you don't want your engagement to compete with your wedding either x

H2B proposed at a friends house warming BBQ so none of our family was there, which is mainly why we are having now, so our family can be there and meet one another.
It will be for no more than 30 people, and my brother's girlfriend has asked her parents if we can use her gazebos, so there's some money saved already, and I'm hoping to make most things myself. I don't think it will compete with the wedding, or at least I hope not. The engagement party I'm trying to make like a Alice tea party, and the wedding is been based on summer pastel buttons, with a few quirky touches.

I'm having en engagement party as like Button my H2B proposed at his 30th birthday party and sadly none of my family could make it. I'm really only having one as my grandad hasn't met H2B side and we do love any excuse for a party! I'm not going to be spend a lot as I am lucky enough to own a pub I just need to go out and get some food for a buffet!!
I wouldn't spend too much on the engagement party but having it in a pub can make things easier as you can just kick back and enjoy it without having to be the hostess with the mostess nor wash up afterwards!!
I didn't have an engagement party as i wanted to keep all the budget for the wedding .

We didn't have an engagement party as husband proposed on the Thursday, and we called at my parents' the following day to tell them the news. We then told the rest of the family. Also, we'd both been engaged before (twice for me lol) so had done the party and going to a restaurant etc before. We put the money that we'd have spent on a party into the wedding fund instead.

We had one last february. We thought it was a nice way to get all the family together as i hadn't met the other half of my h2bs family and just celebrate really. We ended up spending (roughly) - Venue - We hired out a top floor of a local nightclub as this saved us money as it had everything we needed in one place - a bar, dance floor and dj all included. It worked out more expensive for us to hire a function room and then get a dj in. That came to - £350 Food - We had a finger buffet and this Was done by our venue and included in theyre price. Decorations - We DIY'd and done all our own balloons, streamers and banners - £80. Invites - Vista Print about £25.
Think that was everything. So around the £450 ish mark.

my h2b proposed june last year, so instead of having a party we had a massive summer bbq in our house with all our family and friends, which saved us so much money that went towards our wedding :) x

We didn't have an engagement party. Would rather spend money on wedding plus its difficult getting family and friends in one place. xxx

We had an engagement party, back in 2007. We got engaged in the May, waited until the August to have the party as a lot of his family told us we were stupid to get engaged. All in all I reckon we spent about £350, that included a DJ, decoration, cake and a buffet too. Hire of the place didnt cost us anything as it was at our cadet unit that had a bar etc, and some of the staff ran the bar for free for us, although we did put money in a envelope and stash it in his coat as he went out!

Ours cost us £300 and it was on easter sunday last year (bank hol). We rented out our local conservative club's function room (cost £20 to join the club and then got the room for free), had a DJ - £150, did a hot buffet and payed for everyones first drink, and our friend made our cake for us as an engagement present, and at the end of the night we had near on 100 people there. So it doesn't have to cost the earth if you dont want it to! xxx
