At my venue we get the choice of having either a barn reception or a marquee one (marquee is an extra £1500 so will probably end up using the barn). In the marquee a dancefloor is provided, but in the barn one isn't. The barn has parquae (sp?) flooring so it is wooden anyway so do I really need to hire a dancefloor? My friend said that I should otherwise people wont dance, but I just see it as an unnecessary cost? What do you guys think? xxx

Ours is tiled floor in a barn venue, and our wedding planner is just taking away two tables at night time to make it a dance floor area, ppl will know where to dance if there's a space big enough, or ppl will dance round the tables lol x

How much more would it cost? I'd be inclined to hire a dance floor because how would people know where to dance? I think there needs to be a designated dance area otherwise people might not dance x

Well we are having a band, and tables will be moved from in front of them so I would have thought people would know to dance infront of them? And I would be looking at £150-£200 for a dancefloor where I live xx

If tables will be moved so that it's obvious where the dance area is I don't see when you really need to hire a "dance floor". To me the dance floor is basically the area in front of the DJ that is clear of tables and I'm sure your guests will know where to dance xxx

You probably don't need one then. Just as long as its obvious where people can dance x

I agree completely with InDreamland, dance floor is basically the area in front of the dj, if the space is big enough, people will know where to dance! xxxx A dancefloor is just an extra cost that really isn't needed xxx

As long as the area is clear and not too large it should be ok. I was at a wedding in a converted barn once and the cleared area for the dance floor was far to large. It always looked like there was no one dancing. I'd be tempted to ask the dj if they know anyone that could provide one on the cheap.

We're having a marquee the dance floor is wooden but is covered in carpet tiles like the rest of the flooring and it's an extra £75 for the dance floor for us, we are paying it though because it just looks like a blank area without the wooden flooring being revealed.

I agree - as long as its the right size space, I'm sure people will figure it out xx

our whole floor is wooden and we aren't haven't any flooring put down, hopefully the big space and flashing lights will show people where to go, failing that my family are a bit bonkers and will dance anyway!

As long as there is a defined space, I think people will know where to dance. Perhaps double check with the barn in case they require it. At our venue, although it is a listed building, the floor is new so we dont need to put down a dance floor.

If its already wooden I would say don't bother. If tables are around the outside people will understand the middle is for dancing.
