I need some advice. My h2b has been Married before and is now divorced. He moved with his job and they asked for all his official documents for his personal file and now they have lost everything. They have replaced his passport and driving licence because he needs those in order to work but the others he has to take care of. I have managed to order a copy of his birth certificate but I can't find anywhere that gets copies of the Decree Absolute for less than £95.

At the moment we don't need the documents until next June but here's the really good bit, he's away until April and gets 6 weeks off and then he's away again. So I really need to get prepared before he goes away next year.

Has anyone had to apply for a copy of Decree Absolute and did you manage to get it any cheaper?

Really appreciate some help as me head's buzzin! xx

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

My decree absolute got lost in the post by DVLA. I wrote to the court where my decree was granted and asked how much a copy would be, they just sent me a copy at no charge, must admit i was really surprised
might be worth him sending them a cheeky letter enquiring never know he might be lucky like i was

I would suggest that if you can't get it from the Court it was granted in without paying a fee that your h2b speaks with the HR department at his workplace and asks them to cover the cost on the basis that they requested it and it was lost while in their possession. Really they can't refuse since it was their responsibility to return the documents

Thanks ladies, I've just typed a letter to the court and hoping that will work. I don't mind paying a small fee but I think £95 is a bit steep. There will be no point in trying to sort it with his work, they'd probably pay eventually but I've only got 8 months to sort this out and they go at a snails pace at sorting everything out.

But still approach his work about it - they may not come up with the funds in time but if they agree to pay for it then you'll still be getting the money back.
£95 is steep but then copies of legal documents always are and look at it this way, you don't pay the fee and you won't have the papers thus you can't married, makes the price seem more worth it!

    It's right what they say
"The course of true love never runs smoothly"
But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

Why does his work have all his important doc's????
Even the army don't do that well my dad, ex husband and brother in law never did when they were in the army???
This is why when someone asks for something I always send copies...........it's what they are gonna do anyway!

Anyway go to the court that issued the decree and get it from them hunni some dont charge some do but usually not alot :-)
