I started with daily disposables and then worked my way up - wear them for a few hours a day and gradually increase your usage. They are the best things I have ever tried. Like Natalie said always carry drops as you never know. x

I've had monthly disposables for about 8 years now. They're amazing, and make my life so so so much easier. Just make sure you go to a good optician, as it's very important they know what they are doing.

I wear hard gas permeables and never ever had a problem with them even tho I wear them for over 16 hours a day. Love them, but if you use the pc a lot buy a lil bottle of vital eyes eye drops for contact lens wearers as your eyes can start to feel dry and the drops are heaven if stored in the fridge. xx

Your optician will have a look at your eyes and recommend the best ones for you. I'm with vision express and they give me free lenses to try. Certain drugs can change the wetness of your eyes so remember to tell them about everything you are on including contraceptive pills.

I was going to start a post like this so am glad I searched it.

I always said I would never wear them as I don't like the thought..but for our wedding I would like to see whats going on but don't really want photos with my glasses on.
My question is how long would you say it took you to get used to contacts??

I used daily disposables for years and never had any problems but i did get tired of little things like not bing able to have a nap when i get in from work without taking them out lol and not being able to see the clock in the middle of the night. So igot laser eye surgery and i would recommend that to anyone it is fantastic, i now have better than 20:20 vision!

Butterfly they use a laser to cut a flap on the front of your eye so they can get to the lens. Then another laser actually reshapes the lens. It literally takes about 30 seconds per eye! Doesn't hurt at all, you can feel pressure as your eye is clamped still but it's not painful just ever so slightly uncomfortable and you can smell the laser burning! Sounds awful but it is great within about a day! Don't lisen to the adverts though that say from £395 per eye cos it was actually 3 and half grand!!!! x

You'll need to find out what contacts are best suited to your eyes its fine and you have the choice if you have 'normal eyes' but if you have an astigmatism (like me) then your only option is to go for monthly 'toric' lenses....still contacts aren't too expensive i would say compared to the boost you get out of them :D they are so worth it.
One other thing i learned, depending which company you go for make sure you keep a supply of lens solution handy, and also some in your purse, very handy for say nights out or windy, or tiring days.....but make sure you stick to that solution, once got some from a tesco as i'd run out of mine, big mistake! had to throw out my lenses because the solution was horrible and hurt my eyes :S

my monthly contacts are £13 per month from spec savers. the good thing about my ones are i am allowed to nap in them.
very rarely i do sleep in them aswell for example when i have had to much to drink and cant be bothered to take them out and they have never done any damage to my eyes and i have been using them for about 7 years xx

I'm £15 a month for monthly contacts that I take out at night from Optical Express. I'm like you Mrs Barkertobe, I've fallen asleep in them a few times and once overnight and all it meant was dry eyes for a bit and a headache (although that may have been the alcohol, lol) xxx

I wear contacts and have done for over half my life now (god I sound old!!). Hate being without them!

So far as the laser eye surgery is concerned, do be aware that it's not always a lifelong solution - my dad had it done about 6-7 years ago and is now back to wearing glasses to read. Definitely ask them about what will happen if your eyes continue to deteriorate. I wont have it done just for that reason - my eyesight is still in constant decline and I don't think I could justify the expense to have to have them done again in a few years time.

I'm not convinced with laser surgery, there hasn't been enough research done on it. I'm probably biased though as I'm a research scientist so I'm probably in the mindset that things need to be researched to death to get a definite answer. I just think we're too early to know the results of laser surgery after say 30 years and I also know of an eye specialist who said he'd never have it done. I think i'll just stick with lenses and specs. However, I think it most definitely a personal choice so please don't think i'm being mean :) xxx

I wear daily disposables too, can nap in them but do take them out at night. Im with NHR115 re research.. thats the medical side in me but mine cost..... £4.99 per month and no need for drops. Now thats a bargain looking at the costs the other ladies are paying... Do still have glasses as a back up but again just go 2 pairs designer frames etc for £79 and they let you have 4 pairs to try on at home before you decide. Love them.

I'm a contact lens supervisor at an optician's. If u r thinking of having contacts and not had them before, get an up 2 date sight test (4 your spectacle prescription) and the optician Will use that to determine ur contact lens prescription. They Will then make sure your suitability 4 lenses and if they're happy that ur eyes r nice and healthy, they'll discuss lens options. U Will then get taught How 2 put the lenses in and How 2 take them out and How 2 look after them. when u do this successfully, They Will let u try them 4 a few days and then u need 2 go back 2 them 2 check everything is ok and they can finalise the prescription. Once thats done, u can buy them. You do need 2 keep going back, normally annually if u continue 2 wear them.

4 those with astigmatism, there r dailies u can go 4 but they're very limited in the amount it can correct.

I hope this is enough info!

i've worn contacts for over 7 years and can't live without them !!
i pay £22 for 30 lenses you can get them for £13 but only if u use them less than 3-4 times a week which is what i did when i 1st started. it's amazing much better than glasses. i use dailies and can sleep during day with mine in if u go to ur local specsavers they will let u hav a free trial (5 days worth ov contacts) which u build up usage each day eg start on 2hours then 4,etc
takes about a month b4 ur comftable popping them in and out at ease!
my daughter who is 12 always wanted contacts as she hates her glasses!! so i asked if she could trial them she had to have sml weights put in her contacts due to the shape ov her eye which cost a lot more !! as there made specific to your prescription!
she just wears them on occasion as it does take a while to get use to them and can take time putting them in xx

I once came home drunk and tried to take my lenses out. I couldn't get the lens out, I could get hold of it but couldn't get it out of my eye. After about 15 minutes of this and a bit of pain I decided to give up. Next morning my eye was bright red where I had actually taken my lenses out the night before and had been trying to remove the front of my eyeball by mistake!
Now if I'm drunk (which doesn't happen often)I just leave them in, it's safer that way.

I wear daily disposables and I plan to wear them at my wedding. My advice is like the others- keep eyedrops handy (refresher drops are ideal), although make sure whoever has them for you also holds the makeup as you will need to top up.

Also keep your glasses handy. Aside from the ones you can wear all the time, they only recommend you wear them for 8 hours a day. I've always ignored that and been fine, but should you get really uncomfortable, take them out! Also, keep a spare pair just in case one splits or falls out. Its rare, but sometimes you can wipe your eye, forgetting that you've got contacts in. Next thing you know, its on the floor.
