Iv just been to our reception venue to go over things and im really confused about all the timings of things. We are having a 3 o'clock wedding in our local church then going onto the venue which is only about 2 miles up the road by horse and carrige, for a 3 course meal etc. He (the venue man) is saying that by the time the ceramony and the photos etc are finished we should get to him for about 5.30. Then sit down for our meal at 6 which including speeches and everything will take 2 and a half hours so the evening guest have to arrive at 8.30. The evening buffet will be out at 9 for everyong to eat for an hour so we will have our first dance at 10 o'clock THEN the party will start.! This just all seems so late, i thought that the evening guests would arrive at about 7.30 and our 1st dance would be about 8.30. Is what hes saying right, do things really take that long.? xx

Im getting married at 2pm... my venue is 4 miles away.. our sit down meal is arranged for 4pm..... the evening guests are arriving about 7.30... first dance is at 8.30.....
depends on how many photos you are having.. Im going off for half an hour after the wedding to have some private pics done..
check with your photographer etc.. it does seem a little late as some of the older generartion will prob wanna leave about 10.30..

That does seem very late.
Could you not have sit sown meal at 5, then evening guests arrive at 7? Although the time it takes for the sit down meal will be determined by the number of guests you have, more guests will take longer to get fed! Then evening guests at 7, first dance at 8 - party starts, evening buffet out at 9.

We have our civil at 2pm Blessing at 3pm Reception drinks at 3.45 and then we have allowed for up to two hours for photos as they are the only thing you have to remember of your day in the future. Not all of them are going to be posed and some of them will be with the guest and casual shots but they can take time to do. We sit down at about 5.45pm and they say it usually takes about 2 hours to eat and do speeches etc. It means our evening doesn't start until 8.30 but I'm not so bothered about this as the guests can use the other bar while the room is being changed over so any early people for the evening can join us there. It can save you some money on evening buffet and entertainment having it that bit later too so it isn't all bad.
