Are any of you getting your engagement ring cleaned before the big day ?? I wear mine in the shower unless I've dyed my hair recently and wear it when I wash my hands etc, so it isn't horribly dirty but there are tiny parts that I think will need cleaning by the wedding but I am absolutely terrified of sending it off with the jewellers I use :-( Not because I don't trust them because they have cleaned very precious jewellery for me before, but it took nearly a week and I can't imagine parting with my E.Ring for that long :'(
Have any of you done it or contemplating doing it ??? xx

I was literally just thinking this. my E Ring is yellowing (its white gold) so I was going to have it cleaned and re-plated before the big day :) xx

Thats a good idea :-) Mines platinum so wont need that, but it has a big diamond, 1 medium either side of that and 3 little ones either side of those and the medium ones and little ones seem to be a bit less shiny and I want them gleaming for the wedding.. Especially seeing as my wedding ring is going to have the same size little diamonds in it, but they'll be much newer so don't want it to out shine my E.ring.... I sound mental, sounds like I think my rings will be competing :-/ Haha.. But anyhow, lol, how do you feel about having to send it off to get done ???? :-(

What is ur ring made ofa nd waht stones are it georgie?
Samuels do a pot of cleaner for silver or gold stuff and it great but it will depend ont eh stones you have in ur ring, mine is white gold, diamond and saphire and i just drop it in there for few minutes, it comes with little brush then washi it of with water and works a treat but some stones you cant put in tehre so just check before by it think was only about £4.00

It's platinum with 9 diamonds Mrs Bram to be.. Thank you, I'll pop in next time I'm in town and see if they can help, even if they do a same day clean that'd be great.... I'd feel so lost without it for over a week and I don't feel like the luckiest person on the world so am paranoid about something happening to it, I know what an amazing job they do though.. My grandma left me her e.ring and wedding ring, her e.ring had 5 colourless diamonds in it and was in pretty bad condition cleanliness wise.. I sent it to my jewellers and it came back a week later looking like a brand new ring, I couldn't believe the difference ! xx

vodka is also good for cleaning rings - but not ones that are porous like pearls or opals

Nothing is harder than not being able to wear your ring as its in half and trust me you feel so naked but think in a weeks times you ring will be back looking sparkly and new like brand new you can do it hun then you don't have to have it cleaned in a while be on your finger where it belongs =D ♥ X

Mrstalbot2b - I got mine from a jewellers in York, might phone them and see what they say.. Don't know if I trust vodka lol..
KatherineR45 - I would do that but found out my insurance is void if anything happens to it if I don't send it to a proper cleaners :-(

I know how you feel about being without it! I am going to get mine cleaned I think just so it will be looking it's best for the day.

I never thought about cleaning my engagement ring. I might just clean it at home but the diamonds still glisten, which is the main focus on the ring, so I may not bother. I certainly won't get it done professionally as it was only done a few years ago and it's money.

i had mine cleaned and polished before the big day as my engagement ring wouldn't have looked as bright next to my new wedding band. Cost me £25 with a high street jeweller and it came back perfect

I sent mine off with E jones to be polished and replated. They said 2-4 weeks but was back in less than 2, cost £30 and they take down lots of details and give you a receipt with a rough valuation on (I assume to claim on their insurance in the event of an issue). As mine is white gold it was starting to yellow slightly, so wanted it done before wedding so they 'age' at the same rate. I didn't think the stones etc were too bad, but it looks a lot better now so obviously got a bit mucky.
CommentAuthorMrsH-2B
My H2B is insisting we take it to our jewellers on Saturday to get it revalued for insurance as its sale price has tripled from hen he bought it so insurance would've too.. So they'll clean it as well for me.. Will be gone about a week and costs 2% of the valuation which will prob be about £70 :-( xxx

I put mine in about 3 weeks before we flew out. But as it was my first 'service' it was free and if you can't trust Tiffany's, who can you trust?! It did make a difference though - it was very sparkly afterwards :)

I'll be getting mine cleaned before the wedding. I tried on my wedding ring and engagement ring together last week and the e ring looked so dull beside the new ring. Think it'll look better for the photos

Got told mine isn't dirty enough and would be wasting my money sending it for cleaning ! But hot soapy water and a kids toothbrush will get the little bits of dust i can see.. And that I don't need it sent off for valuing as I have the information card with all the details needed for an insurance company so happy happy Georgi :-) get to keep my ring :-) xxx

Ours is in London, just off Bond Street, they're an ethical jeweller and only do made to order commissioned pieces, I love my ring so much. Definitely a good idea to get it cleaned before the big day so it doesn't look dull next to your new wedding band and will look sparkly in the pictures xx

the insurance for my ring is in with the house insurance so there are no special conditions attached to it; it's only insured for loss not damage so I'll clean it myself x

I am getting my ring cleaned because it looks so dirty against new wedding ring. I am taking it in store and they have said it will take couple of hours for it to be cleaned. I wear my ring for cleaning, cooking, sleeping etc. Only take it on for massage clients and thats cos of work.
CommentAuthorMrsH-2B
Ours is included in the house but if I did happen to lose it don't want less than its worth else wouldn't be able to buy the same one.. But the shop put a lifetime insurance on it for replacing stones etc so they could just blame me for a stone falling out if the could tell it had been cleaned by a home kit thingy.. Xxx
