We are having a civil ceremony on 21st feb 2015. We have been told that the ceremony will only last 10 minutes so its a good idea to bulk it out abit i.e someone do a reading. Does anyone have any ideas where to look for readings specific to getting married?! Also any other ideas instead of having a reading??? We wanted something abit different but stuck for ideas!! Thanks Emma

I was told our civil ceremony will be 20 mins.
Once you have given notice you will get your ceremony pack to choose your wordings and vows. There are different parts as well as the vows and exchange of rings so very surprised you have been told It will only last 10 minutes!

Yah we've been told 20-25 minutes unless they are expecting us to do readings :-/
Don't forget you can't have religious readings if it's a civil ceremony - You are not allowed anything religious, sacred or anything to do with God etc. You have to have a church for that :) you can have poems etc though! xx

bumped the thread, " Help with civil ceremony readings?" - There's some civil ceremony appropriate readings on there.

You can also write your own vows and promises. So you could potentially have some promises that are a longer that what you have. You would have to talk to your registrar, but ours let us write our own and they are quite a bit longer than the ones they offered us. And if we added in readings etc, then that would also stretch it out. and the readings can be quite inventive too, if you are or have a creative family member then you could have a poem or story that it about you/how you met/ your love etc. That would make it more personal.

You can have music as well, again though it can't have anything religious. You'll need some music for the signing of the register at least, and maybe you could have a song that means something to you at another point. Another idea would be to invite guests to say a little bit to wish you well in your marriage.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
