I am having 3 adult bridesmaids and 5 little girls for flower girls and small bridesmaids my sister is 21 and will be my chief bridesmaid she is helping me choose things as my h2b doesnt really mind hat we have or how much it costs he just keeps saying tell me how much money you want and ill get it for you sometimes i want him to take more notice and give me his opinion. My sister has fallen in love with a dress and wants to have that dress only problem i have is it looks more that a bridal dress than a bridesmaid dress its big and puffy she keeps saying to me i dont want to get married so i have to make sure i look good on your wedding day as i'll never have a wedding day so i should get the dress i want. I keep telling her its my wedding and she should let me pick the dresses with her help but she says i just dont want her to look pretty thats not it at all i just dont want her to look like a bride aswell is that awful? I have spoken to my mum about this but my sister always gets what she wants from my parents and she has them wrapped round her little finger HELP

Aww i really sympathise with you as I've been through something similar. The very first time we arranged to get married my mum bought me a dress off of ebay, i was excited at first but it was one of those 90's style puffy things i know she was only trying to be nice and it was an ok dress i suppose but not for me and i got a dressing down for daring to say so. Then the next again week they (mum and sis) were online looking at brand new dresses and we're going to pick this beautiful ballgown style pink dress for my sister, shes the same has them wrapped around her finger.

This time I'm sticking to my guns if she wont wear the dress I pick (and I'm paying for might i add) she's not allowed to be bridesmaid simple as that

Just noticed your second post, the dress my sister wanted cost more than the one my mum bought. I also forgot to add she bought the wedding dress without consulting me and never told me til the day it arrived, was so excited on the way to her house lol

Absolutely under no circumstances would I personally agree to this hun! This is your day not your sister's! I understand this to be a pain but you have to remain firm in your response and make it very clear that the dress she has picked is not the one you will be buying! Perhaps you could explain that this is not the style you have had in mind, of course you want her to look pretty and that you could both arrange a time to go look at other dresses in the shops! If she digs her heels in further point blankly ask her to step down....even if I was loaded...no bm of mine would be getting a dress for £800+ !!!!!
Plus...21 is still very young to be saying that she will never be married....sounds like an excuse to me in order to get what she wants to be honest!!!! Good luck with all of this chick...families can be a nightmare sometimes xxxx

Mine is the same, worse still, her boyfriend is proposing on the 28th :(

Just tell her to wear the dress you want her to wear or she can just be a guest. Nip it in the bud early, dont let people walk over you hun!

Just tell her it's your wedding and she'll either wear what you like, or she'll not be a bridesmaid. This is one of the reasons my sisters are NOT my BMs x

Tell her no. While I wouldn't put the BMs in a dress they didn't like, I would never let them wear a dress I didn't like. Set a budget at least.

Stand your ground hun. I'm having similar problems with my younger bridesmaid WANTING pink, which is what I'm wearing!! so I want her in ivory ... her mother is getting her another dress to change into and I just know it will be pink, so I'm working up to telling her where she stands, which I'm not looking forward to at all as her mum is my h2b's sister and is very pushy and likes her precious daughter to get her own way with everything!! I can really understand how hard it is for you, but I think you should tell her NOW that what she wants isn't gonna happen. good luck! x
